We are looking for an experienced CIPD qualified HR professional who can provide expert people advice to staff and managers ensuring policy and practice reflects our values. In return, we can offer you an enriching personal experience of making a real difference to children and their families.

This is a new role and will be the first HR role at Home-Start HOST. The role will enhance organisational effectiveness, and help us to prepare for further strategic developments and growth, by taking responsibility for the functionality of HR processes and policies across the organisation, including staff recruitment, development, training, welfare and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Main duties of the job

Keep HOSTs values at the heart of recruitment & employee relations. Keep pace with developments in UK employment law, HR best practice, pay and benefits and advise the CEO & Board of Trustees to ensure policies and practice remain compliant and aligned with sector standards. Work with the CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure organisational policies are in place, appropriate to current legislation and good practice and adhered to. Co-ordinate fair and inclusive processes for recruitment, onboarding, role transitions and off-boarding. To create and maintain a staff induction programme which helps new staff to understand HOSTs policies, culture, values and key personnel.

To provide guidance to the management teams, support and develop line managers to manage &resolve employee relations issues (e.g. grievances, disciplinaries, bullying and harassment, whistleblowing, safeguarding, absence management, flexible working, dismissals, performance management and capability issues). To compile written reports for presentation to the management team and Board of Trustees. To design and deliver workforce programmes that align with our strategic aims and support the development of individual employees. Coordinate mandatory training. Deliver, evaluate and adapt to key learnings from staff surveys. Pro-actively support the health & wellbeing of all staff.

Purpose of the job

Main Responsibilities

To ensure that HOSTs values are at the heart of recruitment and employee relations.

Keep up to date with developments/ changes in UK employment law, HR best practice, pay and benefits and make recommendations to the CEO and Board of Trustees to ensure HOSTs policies and practice remains compliant and aligned with sector standards.

To work with the CEO and Deputy CEO to ensure that organisational policies are in place, are appropriate to current legislation and good practice and are being followed by the workforce.

Co-ordinate fair and inclusive processes for staff recruitment, onboarding, role transitions and off boarding.

Ensure adherence to safer recruitment practice at all levels of recruitment for both staff and volunteers.

To create and maintain a staff induction programme which helps new staff to understand HOSTs policies, culture, values and key personnel.

To provide guidance to the management team on a range of HR topics.

To be the liaison with external HR and EAP providers.

To develop the skill and confidence of line managers and offer support as they manage and resolve any employee relations that arise (e.g. grievances, disciplinaries, bullying and harassment, whistleblowing, safeguarding, absence management, flexible working, dismissals, performance management and capability issues).

To compile written reports on HR issues, training, organisational and workforce development or other areas within the remit of this job function for presentation to the management team and Board of Trustees.

To oversee the delivery of projects and work streams which enhance and drive forward the organisation's commitment to being an inclusive workplace.

To design and deliver strengths-based workforce programmes (including staff training and development) that align with our strategic aims and support the development of individual employees.

Coordinate mandatory training, liaising with trainers or online providers to meet our legal requirements and contractual obligations.

Facilitate the delivery of regular staff surveys, highlighting key learnings and work with the CEO and management team on developing and implementing action plans.

To assist the organisation in maintaining or gaining appropriate quality marks.

Play a pro-active role in supporting the health & wellbeing of all staff.

Ensure internal practices and policies comply with Health & Safety at work regulations.

To undertake other projects as determined by the organisation as appropriate.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of providing HR support for a remote and flexible working organisation Experience of managing a wide range of employee relations Experience of managing staff recruitment, selection, onboarding and offboarding Experience of contributing to the creation of a values-led, inclusive and high-performing organisational culture Experience of developing and delivering training for adults

Desirable

Experience of working for a small to medium sized organisation in a HR stand-alone role Experience of working with a volunteer workforce

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Excellent understanding and application of UK employment law and best practice Competent at using Microsoft office applications and using CRM and database systems in your work Knowledge of safer recruitment practice and of safeguarding relating to children and vulnerable adults Analytical skills to draw out useful information to inform reports and actions Ability to confidently and cogently influence and support managers at all levels Good understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion legislation and best practice Team player who is committed to collaboration

Qualifications Essential

CIPD level five or above
