About this role

Job summary

The Neurophysiology service at York provides a wide range of diagnostic procedures including routine, sleep, portable, ambulatory EEGs, Video-Telemetry and Home Video Ambulatory EEGs, EMG/ NCS, SEPs (department and ICU based) pattern and flash VEPs, ERGs and EOG.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Neurophysiology Department for an enthusiastic, experienced individual to join our fantastic small team of dedicated Clinical Physiologists, Assistants and Trainees, working closely with Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists.

This is a band 6, Specialised Physiologist post in Neurophysiology at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Voluntary Professional Registration (RCCP, HCPC or AHCS registration) is desirable / strongly encouraged and supported, with a commitment that if not registered you would commit to achieving this within 18-24 months of appointment.

Consideration would be given to applicants preferring a part time position, subject to hours.

Consideration would be given toa less experienced / newly qualified physiologist if you were the right candidate. If successful, this position would commence on a band 5 salary.

Although the service is situated on the York site, there is expectation in the future that services will be provided at other sites so a willingness to travel is required.

Expected interview date is 16/06/2026.

Main duties of the job

Maintain high professional standards of Neurophysiological services to patients. Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure service(s) meet changing healthcare needs. Provide support and assistance to Neurophysiological staff in dealing with difficult and conflicting situations, including those that are of a clinical/professional nature. Participate in the implementation of policies. Prioritise and co-ordinate individual patients tests and care needs Plan and perform a range of basic and specialised Neurophysiological investigations to a high level of competence to patients. BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent formal specialist training (other appropriate qualifications e.g. BTEC HNC/D in MPPM / or equivalent experience + professional exam ECNE/ANS Part I and Part II or MSc Clinical Science in Neurophysiology gained as part of STP) plus knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through specialist courses or training/experience. If Part I not gained, must be willing to commit to achieving this within 18-24 months of appointment.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications / Training Essential

BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent formal specialist training (other appropriate qualifications e.g. BTEC HNC/D in MPPM / or equivalent experience + professional exam ECNE/ANS Part I and Part II or MSc Clinical Science in Neurophysiology gained as part of STP) plus knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through specialist courses or training/experience. If Part I not gained, must be willing to commit to achieving this within 18-24 months of appointment. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

ECNE Part 2 Training and assessing qualifications Specialist training in advanced Neurophysiological techniques Registered with Professional Body RCCP / HCPC / AHCS or commitment to work toward achieving this within 24 months.

Experience and Knowledge Required Essential

Experienced in performing routine Neurophysiology EEG investigations Experienced in performing NCS for CTS / UNE Experienced in performing multi-modality EPs Experience of working with adults and children

Desirable

Experience of supervising / training / assessing students Experienced in Long Term Monitoring (VT, AMB)

Skills and Attributes Essential

Good presentation (oral/written) and computer skills
