About this role

Job summary

The Senior Radiographer (Band 6) will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-focused diagnostic imaging service across the Trust. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary radiology team, providing expert clinical practice in general radiography and at least one advanced imaging modality including CT, MRI, Cardiac Catheter Laboratories or Interventional/Angiography.

The post holder will demonstrate leadership within the department, supporting junior staff and students, contributing to service delivery, quality improvement, clinical governance and training. In the absence of the Modality Superintendent or Deputy, the Senior Radiographer will take responsibility for the safe and effective running of designated areas of the department.

The role requires participation in out-of-hours, on-call and cross-site working, following appropriate training, to ensure a responsive and efficient imaging service that reflects the Trust's HEART values and commitment to placing Quality at our HEAR

Main duties of the job

Deliver a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic imaging service in general radiography and at least one advanced imaging modality, including CT, MRI, Cardiac Catheter Laboratories or Interventional/Angiography Work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, effective imaging in line with IR(ME)R, Trust policies and departmental protocols. Participate in on-call, standby and out-of-hours rotas Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff, assistant practitioners and students, contributing to training, mentoring and assessment. Act as a senior point of contact for clinical queries and service issues, particularly out of hours, and deputise for senior colleagues as required. Contribute to service development, audit, quality assurance, equipment management and clinical governance activities. Maintain professional competence through ongoing CPD, supporting cross-modality working and continuous service improvement. Uphold Trust policies, safeguarding responsibilities, infection prevention standards and demonstrate the Trust's HEART values in all aspects of work.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

Current HCPC registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer. BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent recognised qualification.

Desirable

Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development (CPD) and commitment to maintaining professional competence.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Post-qualification experience in diagnostic imaging, including competency in general radiography and experience of acute and elective imaging. Evidence of formal or in-house training and current clinical experience in at least one advanced imaging modality, e.g. CT, MRI, Cardiac Catheter Laboratories or Interventional/Angiography. Demonstrable understanding of IR(ME)R, clinical governance, health and safety, infection prevention and safeguarding responsibilities. Experience of working autonomously within a clinical imaging environment, demonstrating the ability to prioritise workload, manage conflicting demands and make appropriate clinical decisions in a busy acute setting.

Desirable

Experience across more than one advanced imaging modality (e.g. CT and MRI, or CT and Interventional/Angiography).

Skills and Abilities Essential

Experience of supporting, supervising or teaching junior staff, assistant practitioners and/or students in a clinical environment. Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while delivering patient-centred care.
