Job summary

Our Night Warden plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and comfort of tenants living within our sheltered housing service at Shebson Lodge.

Working overnight, you will provide reassurance, welfare support, and monitoring for residents while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

You will respond to emergencies, carry out regular checks, and support tenants to remain independent within their homes.

The role requires excellent communication skills, a calm and compassionate approach, and the ability to work independently during night hours.

As part of Jewish Cares Southend & Westcliff Services, you will contribute to a wider community-focused service that supports older people through a range of care and wellbeing services.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a caring and reliable Night Warden to support tenants overnight within our sheltered housing accommodation at Shebson Lodge.

You will be responsible for maintaining building security, carrying out health and safety checks, responding to emergencies, and offering practical and emotional support to tenants as needed.

The successful candidate will be observant, approachable, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Experience within care, housing, customer service, or support environments would be beneficial, although full training will be provided.

Job description Job responsibilities

Do you have a passion for supporting older adults and ensuring their safety and well-being overnight? We are looking for a compassionate and responsible Night Warden to join our team at Jewish Care.

This post is working 6 out of 7 days on 12.5 hour shifts from 8pm to 8.30am, including some weekends, excluding breaks.

You will be working an average of 34.5 hours per week. The rota is:

Week 1: 4 shifts per week. (46 hours) Week 2: 2 shifts per week (23 hours) Week 3: 0 shifts per week Overtime is available.

About the Role As a Night Warden, you will provide overnight support, security, and peace of mind to tenants living in our independent sheltered housing. You will ensure the building remains safe, respond to emergencies, and provide a reassuring presence throughout the night.

What Youll Be Doing: Checking on tenants well-being and responding to calls for assistance Acting as the first point of contact in case of emergencies, including fire alarms and medical incidents Ensuring security and safety of the building, including locking communal areas and monitoring access Recording and reporting incidents, building issues, and tenant concerns Supporting tenants with any minor issues while promoting their independence What Were Looking For: Experience in lone working, security, or a care-related role Knowledge of health & safety procedures, emergency response, and risk assessment Compassionate, calm under pressure, and able to handle sensitive situations professionally Basic IT and record-keeping skills Health & Social Care Level 2 qualification (or willingness to work towards it) Apply today!
