Job summary Locum Consultant in the department of Trauma & Orthopaedics

To support the Trusts Major Trauma Centre in the Yorkshire and Humber region, we are looking to appoint a Locum Orthopaedic Major Trauma Consultant. This is a 10 PA locum appointment and the post will be available from August 2026 for a period of 6 months

Salary confirmation is subject to 2026 pay awards

Main duties of the job

This role offers an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in developing and delivering trauma services in the region and improving outcomes for our patients.

The successful applicants will work at the centre of a regional network that covers nearly 4 million people (adults & children) in our Major Trauma Centre, which includes a dedicated major trauma ward, theatres, and critical care facilities.

As a natural hub for Yorkshire, and with excellent connections to all parts of the North of England, we have worked hard to bring a logical alignment to patient services with well-equipped, modern facilities, which will see services dedicated to helping critically ill patients all located together in the Jubilee Wing at Leeds General Infirmary. We are the first major multi-site hospital in the UK to have adopted this under-one-roof approach to patient care.

The appointed candidate will join a dedicated Consultant-led, multi-disciplinary team, delivering focused care to patients with severe and multiple injuries admitted to the Major Trauma Centre.

What you will bring to the role The successful applicant must possess the FRCS (In Trauma and Orthopaedics) or equivalent, have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) in T&O and be on the specialist register or be within six months of being admitted to the register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics to complement the high-profile service in Leeds. Applicants should have established skills in managing major trauma. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

‘The role of the MTC Consultant in the next stage of Major Trauma Centres in Yorkshire’.
