About the role

The Senior Strategy Lead is a newly established role responsible for providing rigorous, high-quality strategic analysis and insight to support and challenge the organisation's development and implementation of strategy. The post holder will sit within the Transformation team and operate with substantial analytical autonomy, supporting the team in shaping strategic options, evidence, tracking progress, and recommendations that inform decision-making at trust, NWL Acute Provider Group, and system level.

The role requires structured, hypothesis-led problem solving, strong analytical judgement, programme management skills, and the ability to translate complex evidence into clear, decision-focused insight for senior clinical, managerial, and public audiences.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities

Strategic analysis and problem-solving: Lead complex analytical and research activity to support strategic decision-making, working with a high degree of independence and pace, often across ill-defined or contested problem areas.

Strategic narrative and insight: Synthesise complex qualitative and quantitative information into clear, compelling, data-led narratives that support decision-making at senior level.

Stakeholder engagement and influence: Communicate with clarity and authority across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, co-designing analysis, influencing priorities and outcomes through effective presentation, dialogue and facilitating engagement.

Strategic capability building: Build organisational strategic capability by coaching and supporting colleagues in the effective use of strategic frameworks, analysis tools, and approaches.

Strategy implementation: Coordinate the governance and systems underpinning the effective implementation of strategy, including analysis of strategy KPIs, reporting progress on strategic initiatives, leading progress review process of enabling strategies, and project managing trust-wide priority strategic initiatives.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification Essential

Essential oEducated to Master's degree level or equivalent level of experience oClear evidence of continued professional development in strategic, analytical, or problem-solving practice.

Desirable

oProfessional qualification or advanced training in statistics, analytics, economics, or a STEM-related discipline. oAdvanced post-graduate degree (e.g. MBA, PhD, or equivalent)

Knowledge and Experinece Essential

oExperience in strategy, transformation, or management consulting roles, demonstrating advanced problem-solving capability and analytical rigour. oExtensive experience of developing and synthesising complex quantitative and qualitative analysis, including financial and non-financial information, to inform senior decision-making.

Desirable

oExperience of developing and reviewing strategic business cases or investment proposals. oStrong knowledge of healthcare sector, NHS policy, operating context, and system dynamics. oExperience of working with Board and Executive Directors of NHS organisations

Skills, abilities, and attributes Essential

oAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the development of complex analytical and scenario models. oAdvanced PowerPoint and written communication skills, with the ability to structure clear, compelling, decision-focused narratives. oHighly developed analytical skills, with sound judgement in interpreting complex, ambiguous, or incomplete data. oAbility to distil complexity into clear insight and communicate it effectively to senior and non-technical audiences. oStrong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport and credibility with a wide range of colleagues oProven tact, diplomacy and political awareness oHigh level of organisation, self-motivation and flexibility in approach and attitude oDemonstrated ability to communicate confidently and credibly at senior and Board level.

Desirable

oAwareness of the practical application and limitations of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, including in healthcare settings. oExperience using programming or analytical languages (e.g. Python or R) to support exploratory, strategic or statistical analysis. oExperience creating dashboards using QlikCloud or PowerBI.
