Job summary BAND 7 Paediatric Oncology / Haematology Nurse Specialist

RSCN/RN (CHILD) ESSSENTIAL

(Monday & Friday with an additional day in the week fixed or flexible)

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an accredited Level 1 Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) and service which sees 20-30 new patients per year and has about 50 patients on active treatment. We provide supportive care and chemotherapy to children with oncological and haematological problems over a wide area of West London. Due to maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our dynamic, forward-thinking, and dedicated paediatric haematology/oncology team for a fixed maternity cover.

The paediatric department consists of a 24 bedded inpatient ward (Bumblebee Ward), Rainbow Children's Day Care Unit and Tinkerbell Outpatients. As a POSCU, we work closely with our Principal Treatment Centres, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and University College London Hospitals, as well as a number of Children's Community Nursing Teams. As part of the POSCU team, you will work closely with the lead clinicians and Lead CNS to develop and enhance the service.

This role will be varied and will require that you have significant experience in paediatric haematology/oncology as well as the necessary people skills to support the paediatric haematology/oncology patients going through complex treatment.

Main duties of the job

This role will be varied and will require that you have significant experience in paediatric haematology/oncology as well as the necessary people skills to support the paediatric haematology/oncology patients going through complex treatment.

The role requires that you can access central lines and that you are competent to administer prescribed chemotherapy or willing to undertake the relevant training required. Although this role requires weekday work pattern, there will be a need for some flexibility on working hours as this role will involve the successful applicant attending meetings and representing the service both on and off site as well as providing a clinical service to the patients.

As a senior nurse in this specialist role, you will need to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic and highly motivated, with evidence of excellent communication and leadership skills. You will be well organised and able to work independently and as part of a team. You will be computer literate. Using these skills you will work closely with the paediatric matron, the Lead CNS, the clinical leads for paediatric oncology, haematology, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that our children and their families receive the highest possible standards of integrated care within an ever changing and challenging environment.

This role will be varied and will require that you have significant experience in paediatric haematology/oncology as well as the necessary people skills to support the paediatric haematology/oncology patients going through complex treatment.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria Essential

Educated to Degree Level NMC RSCN / RN Child Mentorship in Practice, SSSA or other teaching qualification Experience of working in paediatric inpatient / ambulatory/ community setting Demonstrable track record of dealing effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Able to demonstrate process for instigating a change in practice.
