About this role
A major civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering long-term investment programmes within the UK water sector is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of AMP8 projects across the South East. Based from the Chichester area, you'll join an established project team working on a diverse portfolio of clean water and wastewater schemes. This is a contract opportunity suited to someone who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced project environment, managing technical delivery, design coordination and stakeholder engagement from pre-construction through to site delivery.
The Role
Working closely with project managers, operational teams, consultants and client representatives, you will take ownership of the design management function across a range of water infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be expected to drive design progress, challenge engineering solutions where required and ensure designs are delivered in line with programme, budget and construction requirements.
Typical responsibilities include:
Managing multidisciplinary design teams across multiple projectsActing as the key interface between designers, delivery teams and the clientOverseeing design programmes and technical deliverablesCoordinating design reviews, approvals and assurance processesManaging design risks, constraints and change controlEnsuring engineering solutions are practical, efficient and buildableSupporting procurement, construction and commissioning activitiesDriving collaboration between commercial, planning and operational functions What We're Looking For
This position requires a strong understanding of the UK water industry and previous experience delivering projects within an AMP framework environment.Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
Previous experience as a Design Manager, Lead Design Engineer or Engineering ManagerA proven track record on water or wastewater infrastructure projectsExperience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teamsUnderstanding of design assurance, technical governance and project controlsAbility to engage effectively with client, consultant and contractor teamsHNC, HND, degree or equivalent engineering qualification Water industry experience is essential. The client is specifically seeking professionals who understand the standards, approvals processes and operational considerations associated with water sector project delivery.
