About this role

Location: Bukit Minyak Area, onsite at Mainland Penang contract manufacturing site Our Purpose TERADYNE, where experience meets innovation and driving excellence in every connection. We are fueled by creativity and diversity of thought and in our workforce. Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day. We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results. Opportunity Overview As a critical member of Teradyne's Product Test Group (PTG), you will provide hands-on mechanical engineering support for production test systems used across LitePoint, MultiLane Test Products, and Quantifi product lines. This is a manufacturing-focused role rather than a product design position. The engineer will apply a strong mechanical design foundation to understand, troubleshoot, modify, and improve production fixtures, tooling, mechanical setups, and related assemblies during new product introduction (NPI), production ramp, and mass production. This role requires close collaboration with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality, Operations, Contract Manufacturers, and external mechanical vendors to resolve design and process issues and ensure safe, repeatable, high-quality production. Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Provide hands-on mechanical engineering support for assembly, alignment, calibration, handling, and production test fixtures used in LitePoint and MultiLane Test Products (MLTP) manufacturing. Support local and international field installation activities, system integration, commissioning, acceptance, and service activities at customer locations, including resolution of fixture fit, alignment, interference, fastening, handling, and interface issues. Owns localization of mechanicals and packaging material in collaboration with team members in Supply Chain. Interpret mechanical and assembly drawings, process issues, bills of material, and fixture design intent to diagnose fit, alignment, repeatability, wear, and usability problems. Evaluate fixtures and production setups and implement practical improvements to safety, quality, repeatability, throughput, and serviceability. Troubleshoot mechanical design and integration issues during prototype builds, NPI, pilot production, ramp, and mass production. Provide Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Test, and Service feedback while owning production implementation and sustaining support. Develop technical requirements, sketches, redlines, and change recommendations for fixture modifications, replacement parts, mechanical interfaces, and tooling. Coordinate fabrication, installation, qualification, release, and sustaining support of fixtures and tooling at internal and Contract Manufacturer sites. Work with machine shops, fabricators, and suppliers to review designs, clarify requirements, assess build quality, resolve defects, and improve processes. Inspect vendor-supplied fixtures and components against drawings, specifications, tolerances, materials, finishes, and functional requirements. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for fixture defects, damage, dimensional variation, alignment problems, premature wear, and production escapes. Define and execute fixture validation plans covering repeatability, reproducibility, capability, correlation, cycle testing, and preventive maintenance, as applicable. Support Engineering Change Orders, deviations, rework instructions, and controlled changes affecting fixtures, tooling, assemblies, and processes. Maintain drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection criteria, maintenance procedures, spare-part lists, and revision controls. Monitor fixture performance and production feedback and drive improvements that reduce downtime, rework, scrap, and manufacturing cost. Communicate issue status, risk, containment, root cause, corrective action, verification results, and closure criteria to internal teams, customers, and vendors. Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline is required; a master's degree is a plus. 8-10 years of experience in mechanical, manufacturing, product, fixture, tooling, equipment, or sustaining engineering in a production environment. Hands-on experience supporting fixtures, tooling, production equipment, or test-system mechanical setups through NPI and volume manufacturing. Strong fundamentals in tolerance analysis, fits, fasteners, materials, finishes, machining (CNC), sheet metal, plastics, structural rigidity, alignment, and wear. Mechanical design experience sufficient to understand design intent, review drawings, identify weaknesses, and develop production modifications; this is not primarily a product design role. Proficiency with a mainstream 3D CAD platform and the ability to review and markup 2D drawings and 3D models; production-ready fixture design experience is required. Ability to use inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height and pin gauges, torque tools, dial indicators, and optical measurement systems, as applicable. Experience working with machine shops, fixture houses, fabricators, and suppliers on design reviews, build quality, inspection results, corrective actions, and process improvement. Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, drawing release, revision control, and engineering change processes. Experience with 8D, 5-Why, fishbone analysis, FMEA, DOE, SPC, Gage R&R, or capability analysis and process yield improvement is required. Ability to combine technical rigor with practical factory execution, including containment, safe temporary solutions, permanent corrective action, and documented verification. Strong troubleshooting, failure analysis, project management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across global teams. Ability to work independently and professionally at customer sites, implement safe and controlled solutions, and communicate findings and corrective-action status clearly. We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Benefits: Teradyne offers a variety of robust health and well-being benefit programs, including outpatient medical, flexible benefits (Optical, dental, health screening, fitness and wellness), insurance, annual leave, ESPP and more. #LI-Onsite #LI-GQ1
