Function: Engineering Location: Odense, DK — on-site at CobotHub, Energivej 51 Are you ready to make a real impact on the world of robotics? At Teradyne Robotics, a division of Teradyne, we are revolutionizing industries through cutting-edge collaborative and autonomous mobile robotic technologies. As part of our team, you'll work with global leaders Universal Robots (UR) and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), driving innovation that enhances manufacturing, logistics and workplaces across the world. Why join us? This is a student role in UR R&D Test Automation, in the Cage Dweller Program. The Cage is our test lab in Odense: a room full of robots, and the stands we build to run them on. Your job is to keep that lab working, and to leave it a little better every time you touch it. We take in engineering students who are curious, who have drive, and who would rather fix the thing in front of them than write a slide about it. The work is real and it is physical. A stand needs building, a robot needs swapping, a bracket does not fit, a cable is wrong, a test fails for reasons that have nothing to do with the robot. You find out which, and you make the next run cleaner than the last. Some of that is hands on the hardware — designing a fixture, printing it, mounting it, wiring it. Some of it is working out why a test failed. Most days it is a bit of both. Who might fit There is no single background that makes a good Cage Dweller. What every Cage Dweller does is the same: keep the stands running, work out why a test failed, and fix what broke. That is the core of the job no matter what you are studying. Where your background shows is in what you take on beyond that. Someone from robotics, mechkatronics or software engineering might end up deeper in the test code and the framework around it. Someone from electronics might end up expanding our portfolio of interface boards and test electronics. Someone from mechanical engineering, design or manufacturing might end up designing new stands rather than only maintaining the ones we have. Plenty of other backgrounds work here too, and they bring their own angles. So tell us in your application where your strengths lie. The core work is the same for everyone; we shape what grows on top of it around the person. What we offer A seat in the lab, on real UR robots, next to the people who build them and the people who test them A talent track with a clear shape: first you learn to keep a test stand alive, then you start changing the stands and the tests around them 10 to 15 hours a week, flexed around your studies — we would rather see you two or three shorter days in a week than one long day, because the lab needs someone around through the week A culture we call "A company without doors" — ask when you don't know, share when you do. What are we looking for? You are enrolled in an engineering program. This role is on site at our headquarters in Odense, and being there in person is a requirement — the test stands are maintained by hand, and the robots do not debug themselves over Teams. We are hiring for a tinkerer profile. A knack for some of the following is enough; the rest you pick up on the stands. We value curiosity and drive as much as coursework, so if you build your own computers, run a printer at home, or have a project going that has nothing to do with your degree, do tell us about it. Programming, enough to read a failure and change what caused it A POSIX system (Linux) you are willing to live in Electronics, and the patience to chase a fault that is sometimes a wire Debugging, both kinds: a stack trace, and a robot that will not move CAD modeling, and an eye for what is actually manufacturable 3D printing, from a print that warps to one that fits Mechanical construction — fixtures, brackets, mounts, the physical side of a test stand Wiring and small mechanical fixes, done tidily enough to survive a few thousand cycles Nobody arrives with all of this. Bring what you have. English, written and spoken, is how the team works. Danish is welcome. Your tasks will be to Keep the test stands in the Cage up — find what broke, fix what you can, and pull in the right people when you cannot Swap robots and follow a service request through when a stand needs another arm Keep the lab tidy enough that the next person can find the tool Help build new stands, and improve the ones already there — fixtures, wiring, setup, the small things that make the next run easier Learn the systems around the stands (C, C++, Rust, Python, Docker, pytest, our CI) As you find your feet, there is room to take on something of your own alongside the day-to-day — a stand you design, an interface board you build, a test you rewrite, a piece of the framework you make better. What that turns out to be depends on you. Either way you start by owning uptime, and each iteration should leave the stand, the test, or the process in better shape than you found it. How to apply Send us your application as soon as possible. We read them as they come in, so applying early is worth it. Keep it short. A CV, and a few lines on what you have built — a course project, something from your own workshop, anything you are proud of having made work. We would rather see one thing you actually finished than a list of technologies you have heard of. If you have questions before you apply, write to Thomas Almdal at [email protected]. If this sounds like your kind of lab, we would like to hear from you. With over 1,200 employees worldwide, Teradyne Robotics provides a global, fast paced and highly innovative working environment.
