About this role
FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Research Assistant Professor (26270252)
The Jockey Club Laboratory for Neuronal Circuit Dynamics (JC LNCD) led by Prof Thomas Knopfel is seeking to employ a member in the function of laboratory manager. The applicant should have a PhD in Neuroscience and experience in either epigenetics or neurophysiology. Prior postdoctoral experience in an international collaborative environment is strongly desirable.
JC LNCD is a newly developing environment with two complementary and interacting research streams. On the one hand, we use innovative optical imaging techniques based on genetically encoded fluorescent probes to record neuronal activities in awake behaving mice, to find out how electrical activities in specific neuronal circuits contribute to the emergence of behaviour in health and disease. On the other hand, we use molecular biological techniques to read the epigenetic profile of specific types of neurons to understand the molecular basis of individual brain’s performance.
Responsibilities:
The ideal member will be responsible for procurement procedures, for which familiarity with ORACLE-based procurement systems and the general procurement process is highly desirable. The successful applicant is expected to oversee the day-to-day operation of the laboratory including enforcement of safety and good laboratory practices as well as maintenance of supply with research materials and instrumentations. The appointee is also expected to interact and interface with various parties including but not limited to vendors, safety personnel, and various other Departments and Offices.
In addition to these management duties, the ideal applicant is expected to assist with and contribute to research projects conducted by PhD students and junior postdoctoral fellows. The ideal candidate must possess strong communication and management skills, and be able to effectively contribute to an interdisciplinary, multicultural collaborative team. Development of own academic standing is strongly encouraged.
Requirements:
Applicants should be a PhD holder with a strong record of relevant scientific productivity, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one year.
Candidates with less experience may be considered for other research positions.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Application Procedure:
Interested parties are invited to submit their applications through the HKBU e-Recruitment System together with (1) a cover letter, (2) a full curriculum vitae, and (3) samples of publications, preferably the three best from their most recent publications/works. Applicants should also invite two referees to submit confidential letters of reference, citing the Job Identification number (stated above) in their letters, directly to the Human Resources Office (email: [email protected]). For more information, please contact Professor Thomas Knopfel (email: [email protected]). Those who are not invited for interview within four months after the submission of application may consider their applications unsuccessful. All application materials including publication samples, scholarly/creative works will be disposed of after completion of the recruitment exercise.
