About this role

SCHOOL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION

The School of Continuing Education (SCE), one of the seven Faculties/Schools of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and a major provider of continuing and professional education in Hong Kong, offers a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes at the post-secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels for young learners and working adults. SCE also offers in-house training and short courses to meet the community needs and market demands. Operating on a self-financed basis, SCE including its College of International Education currently employ about 400 full-time staff and 550 part-time instructors. SCE is inviting applications for the following position:

Student Development Officer (Ref. No.: 26270231)

SCE is at an advanced stage of progressing towards its registration as a post-secondary college under the applicable law, with completion expected to be within a year. This transformation aims to enhance the internationalisation and diversification of higher education through distinctive, professional programmes that address societal manpower needs. As part of this exciting institutional evolution, successful candidates may be offered the opportunity to transition to the new post-secondary college (upon its successful registration) under a long-term development plan.

The appointee will be responsible for the administration of the SCE Student Development Centre (SDC) at Shek Mun Campus and supporting a broad range of student services and activities. Service areas include support for whole-person development programmes led by the SDC Guidance Counsellors Team; student activities and support groups; student organisations; career services; scholarship and financial aid administration; leadership programmes; and administration of funding for learning projects. The appointee will also provide secretariat support to committees, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure that SDC operations comply with applicable policies, rules, and guidelines. The role may involve occasional travel outside Hong Kong to support cultural activities.

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree holder; • Relevant experience is preferred; • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua); • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; • Outgoing, proactive, detail-minded and independent personality with strong sense of responsibility; and • Proficiency in computer applications. Skills and experience in graphic design, video production and website management are preferred.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written assessment.

Subject to the decision of SCE and the new post-secondary college and other factors which may include (but are not limited to) availability of funding and performance, an offer of appointment may be made by the new post-secondary college (upon its successful registration) following the end of the fixed term contract.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application Procedure:

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System. Those who are not invited for interview 8 weeks after submission of applications may consider their applications unsuccessful. Details of the University’s Personal Information Collection Statement can be found at

HKBU reserves the right not to make an appointment for the post advertised, and the appointment will be made according to the terms and conditions then applicable at the time of offer.

Review of applications is ongoing until the position is filled.
