About this role
Reporting to the Chef and Sous Chef, the Kitchen Porter/Dishwasher keeps the kitchen clean, organized and running smoothly. You'll make sure dishes, equipment and work areas are spotless and ready for service, so the culinary team can focus on great food. It's a great way to start a career in hospitality and learn how a professional kitchen works.
The day to day:
Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen equipment, by hand and with the dishwashing machineKeep the kitchen and service stations stocked with clean plates, utensils and equipment throughout serviceOperate and maintain the dishwashing machine, monitoring water temperature and chemical levelsKeep the dish area, kitchen floors, walk-ins and storage areas clean and organizedEmpty garbage, recycling and compost bins and keep waste areas cleanHelp receive deliveries and store items properly, following the FIFO (first in, first out) methodAssist the kitchen team with basic food prep as neededFollow all sanitation, food safety and hygiene guidelinesFollow WHMIS guidelines and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) when handling cleaning chemicalsComplete opening and closing cleaning checklistsCarry out tasks delegated by the Sous Chef, Chef and/or General ManagerPerform any other duties as assigned Previous experience as a dishwasher or kitchen porter is an asset, but not required. We'll train you!A strong work ethic and a positive, team-first attitudeAbility to stay organized and work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchenAbility to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbsReliable, punctual and eager to learnAvailability for evenings, weekends and holidaysThis is a part time position - with high chance of hours increase (possible full time position in the future)Legally eligible to work in Canada This is a current vacancy
