About this role

Position Summary

Dogs and cats are about to get very excited about the work you do. We make freeze-dried pet food from real, whole-animal ingredients, and we're looking for people who don't mind getting their hands dirty (and cold) to help make them.

Before you apply, here's what to know: you'll handle raw meat, organs, and bones every day. That includes pork, beef, chicken, turkey, fish, shellfish, and other proteins. You'll work in cold, wet conditions, part of the time in a freezer, with strong smells that come with raw product. If that sounds like a dealbreaker, this probably isn't the role for you. If it doesn't faze you, keep reading. We'll train you on the rest. If you have a fish, shellfish, peanut, or tree nut allergy, please see the allergy note below.

Typical Hours: Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Overtime and some extended shifts occur as needed.

Starting Wage: $20-$23/hour, depending on experience.

What You'll Do

Make the product

• Prepare raw materials by grinding, dicing, cutting, and cooking meats, organs, and bones

• Mix ingredients to match recipes and production specs

• Freeze and prep products for the freeze-drying process

• Enter batch and lot information into our production system so every bag can be traced

Keep it safe

• Follow company, FDA, and SQF food safety guidelines for handling, processing, and storage

• Follow HACCP temperature controls for thawing, freezing, and storing raw product

• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Distribution Practices (GDPs)

• Record temperature checks and trailer inspections on inbound and outbound shipments

Keep it clean

• Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas, including taking machinery apart for daily cleaning

• Help with preventive maintenance as you're trained

• Keep production areas, restrooms, and breakrooms clean

• Fill out sanitation logs to confirm cleaning standards are met

Keep it moving

• Load and unload trucks, and help with packaging, shipping, and receiving

• Pitch in wherever the team needs you, and cross-train in other areas as you grow

Who You Are

• No experience needed. Food production or manufacturing experience is a plus, but we'll teach you.

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred

• You follow written and spoken instructions carefully, because food safety depends on it

• You're comfortable with basic computer data entry

• You notice details and take quality seriously

The Physical Side

• You'll stand for most of your shift and regularly bend, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs

• You'll work in cold, temperature-controlled, and freezer areas

• Floors and surfaces are often wet

• PPE is required at all times, and we provide training on it

• Allergy note: This role involves handling fish and shellfish. Some of our projects also use peanuts and other nuts, which can become airborne in the facility. This position may not be safe for anyone with seafood or nut allergies, including airborne sensitivities.

Why This Job

• A steady weekday schedule with no nights or weekends

• Competitive starting pay of $20-$25/hour, based on experience

• Hands-on training in food safety and manufacturing, skills that carry into any food production career

• Room to cross-train and grow as the business grows

• You get to make something pets love

Benefits for all employees
