Salary: £75,000 - 85,000 per year
Requirements: Active SC Clearance or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.Experience as a Senior Systems Engineer, Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or in a similar role, with strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills.Strong knowledge of Linux, VMware, SQL, and IP networking, with Bash and/or Python scripting experience.Strong object-oriented programming, coding, and debugging skills; Java is strongly preferred.Experience with SQL Server or PostgreSQL, stored procedures, and complex systems.Experience supporting high-performance, high-availability, distributed, or mission-critical systems, ideally in a secure or 24/7 environment.Strong customer-facing and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving, ownership, and continual improvement.Experience with Redis/NoSQL, Apache ActiveMQ, server load balancing, F5/Alteon/Cisco ACE, or qualifications such as RHCSA/RHCT, VCP, or CCNA would be advantageous. Responsibilities: Provide 4th-line technical support for smart metering head-end systems and radio access network infrastructure, troubleshooting complex functional and performance issues.Analyse system data, logs, and performance information to identify root causes, resolve incidents, and escalate software or firmware defects when required.Develop and implement improvements to monitoring, diagnostics, troubleshooting, automation, and self-healing, including support tools.Work with R&D, Software, Hardware, Firmware, and IT teams on system design, code reviews, change requests, releases, and continual service improvement.Act as a technical subject matter expert, maintain detailed defect records and knowledge documentation, and support the delivery of high-availability, fault-tolerant systems operating in a 24/7 environment. We are recruiting for a permanent Senior Systems Engineer role with a specialist technology and engineering business working on a large-scale communications network supporting Critical National Infrastructure. The role is based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, with occasional travel to customer premises. The technical environment includes Java, Linux, VMware, SQL, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Bash, Python, IP networking, DNS, distributed systems, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, debugging, ITIL, and configuration management.
