Requirements: Current active SC Clearance is essential.Significant experience in configuration and change control within defence, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry.Proven experience authoring and maintaining Configuration Management Plans.Strong knowledge of configuration management principles, baseline control, and Class I / Class II change classification.Extensive experience using TCU or a similar configuration and change control tool.Experience supporting audits and regulatory engagement.Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and leadership skills.Experience working with classified and export-controlled information. Responsibilities: Define and implement configuration management strategies in line with organisational policy and defence and aerospace standards.Lead the identification and control of hardware, software, and firmware Configuration Items, and establish and maintain configuration baselines across the lifecycle.Ensure traceability between requirements, design artefacts, verification evidence, and delivered products.Act as the technical authority for configuration management and own and maintain programme or product-line Configuration Management Plans (CMPs).Ensure CMPs address configuration items, baselines, change control, status accounting, audits, and tool usage, and comply with applicable standards and customer requirements.Lead end-to-end change control using TCU and chair or support Change Control Boards.Manage Class I and Class II changes, assessing safety, airworthiness, cost, schedule, and support impacts.Oversee concessions, deviations, waivers, and temporary changes, ensuring appropriate approvals and traceability.Ensure approved changes are implemented, verified, and reflected in updated baselines.Serve as a senior TCU user and subject-matter expert; promote consistent use, effective data structures and workflows, data integrity, access controls, and compliance.Support continuous improvement of configuration and change control processes and tools.Lead preparation for and support internal, customer, and regulatory audits; provide status accounting, metrics, and management reporting.Apply security classification and export-control requirements to configuration data.Support configuration and change activities across design, development, manufacture, in-service support, modification, and obsolescence.Support release-to-manufacture, release-to-service, and in-service modification decisions.Advise programme management on configuration risks, impacts, and mitigations.Mentor and train junior engineers, providing guidance on configuration management principles, procedures, and TCU usage.Work with engineering, systems, quality, safety, manufacturing, supply chain, and programme teams, and act as the escalation point for complex issues. We are hiring a Senior Configuration Specialist / Senior Configuration Engineer for an initial 12-month contract, with the assignment very likely to extend. The role reports to the Lead Configuration and Change Manager and provides technical leadership across defence and aerospace programmes. It is inside IR35 and follows a hybrid working model: four days remote and one day on site in Luton.
