About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our dynamic pharmacy team and train to become a pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

This cross-sector rotational programme includes placements with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust and our training partner, Barts Health NHS Trust, at St Bartholomews Hospital.

The successful candidate will be enrolled on a two-year apprenticeship programme starting March 2027 and supported to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to qualify and register as a pharmacy technician.

Applicants must:

Hold a minimum of five GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications, at grade C/4 or above.Include English Language, Mathematics and Science among those qualifications, together with two other GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.Meet the eligibility criteria for a UK apprenticeship. (Any eligible visa's must cover the dates of the whole period of the apprenticeship programme).

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

To undertake the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians Qualification.Work on a rotational basis, gaining competencies and experience as defined by the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians Qualification. A practice/clinical supervisor will beallocatedfor each rotation andoverallthe education supervisor will manage the training programme.Under the supervision of a PharmacyTechnicianyou will:

Agreeing learning objectives, collecting evidence and being assessed by an assessor or expert witness in each rotation in line with the training planAttending college once a week and taking responsibility for developing the knowledge and skills needed to become competent in the roleCollecting evidence and preparing for assessments during allocated work timeUndertaking a wide range of rotational duties, including dispensing for inpatients and outpatients; supplying medicines to wards and departments; procuring and receiving stock from suppliers; maintaining stock; and supporting medicines optimisationAll duties will be undertaken under the supervision of an appropriately registered pharmacy professional and in accordance with local standard operating procedures

Job description Job responsibilities

Participate in all dispensing activities in accordance with standard operating procedures and under the supervision of the pharmacist in charge or Responsible Pharmacist, helping to ensure that the correct medicines are dispensed and are appropriate for the patient.Assemble and check London Ambulance Service drug packs using processes that comply with UK medicines legislation.Please see the Job Description for further details.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Accreditations, Education Essential

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths, English and Science or equivalent Eligible for Apprenticeship funding

Desirable

NVQ/QCF Level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent

Experience Essential

Experience in community or hospital pharmacy stock distribution and top-up services. Experience of working in a team Interested in and have knowledge of the use of medicines Understand the importance of quality issues Good IT skills including data entry Good Analytical skills Good Communication skills (including verbal and written)

Pharmaceutical environment experience
