The Role – Low Voltage Pre-Technician
The Low Voltage Pre-Technician is an entry level position learning the basics in the low voltage industry. This role will involve installing access control, CCTV, fire alarm, intrusion, and structured cabling systems. Industry experience is not required but a strong work ethic and a desire to learn is crucial to growing in this role. Work will be performed in commercial and industrial settings while adhering to strict safety protocols.
What You'll Do
• Correctly label all wiring and devices according to SOPs.
• Use hand tools, cordless drills, hammer drills, etc. Plus, select the proper tools for the work being performed.
• Understand how to properly maintain and care for tools.
• Perform manual tasks with accuracy and consistency.
• Perform repetitive functions under close supervision.
• Retain task instructions.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Obtain knowledge of system materials and equipment.
• Be responsible for per diem forms, timecards, and safety paperwork.
• Maintain consistent communication with the job lead.
• Work independently for periods of time and accomplish required tasks.
• Perform cable setup and pulling.
• Install appropriate cable support systems.
• Remove abandoned cable by direction.
• Properly install low voltage system devices.
• Understand basic device functions and wiring.
• Prepare data wall outlet locations and punches down jacks.
• Adhere to all safety policies and practices.
What You Bring (Required Experience)
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• You must possess a valid driver's license and access to personal transportation or must have access to reliable and efficient means of transportation to and from work sites.
• The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
• The ability to write simple correspondence.
• You must possess basic knowledge of the use of a PC and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Bonus Points For (Preferred Experience)
• One to three months of related experience and/or training are a plus, but not necessary.
• Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or can obtain certification shortly after being hired.
• Achieve QuickStart training after three (3) months with the company.
• Complete lift Training.
• Achieve OSHA 10 within one year.
