About this role
We seek a restoration professional to develop and implement restoration projects on private and public land in the U.S. Sky Island region to sustain water sources, restore watershed function and riparian habitat, and improve wildlife connectivity and access to resources. Consideration of applicants will begin October 26, 2026.
Restoration Manager job responsibilities duties include:
• Develop restoration projects on public and private lands:
•
• Set priorities for restoration activities collaboratively with the program director and conservation team.
•
• Build relationships with public land agencies, private land managers, and partners to create opportunities for restoration projects.
•
• Scope and design restoration projects.
•
• Write funding proposals to support current and new project work and manage grant administration and reporting.
•
• Assist agency partners as they conduct any needed environmental and cultural compliance and permitting to get projects ready for implementation.
•
• Support the implementation of restoration projects by leading staff and volunteer crews in the field.
• Supervise up to 3 full-time field staff.
Core Competencies: The Restoration Manager will have a minimum five years of relevant experience in low tech restoration methods for habitat and water source improvement, such as erosion control, invasive species management, wildlife-friendly fencing, and rangeland water infrastructure. They will have a demonstrated track-record of developing partnership with public agencies and spatial analytical skills. Further, the Restoration Manager will have the ability to follow-through with minimal supervision, handle numerous projects at one time, and meet deadlines consistently. They must also have a demonstrated commitment to communicating in bilingual (English and Spanish) settings with colleagues and developing second language skills, a strong knowledge of principles and practice of inclusivity and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion, and be able to work well with diverse staff, volunteers, partners, and community members.
Job Location and Working Conditions: This position will have regular travel within the Sky Island region including working field weekends and multi-day trips during the week as often as 2-3 times per month, and occasionally camping for up to 8 days. In the field, the Restoration Manager is expected to hike on and off trail over rough terrain at elevation with heavy field equipment in extreme weather conditions, drive a 4WD vehicle on back country roads, obtain and keep Wilderness First Aid or higher medical certification, maintain valid passport for occasional work in Mexico, and maintain valid driver's license for operation of fleet vehicles.
