PROGRAM SUMMARY
The ELMS Program is dedicated to delivering client-centered, needs-based English language and settlement services aimed at empowering newcomers to lead fulfilling lives in our community. Our comprehensive services encompass formal and informal English language learning, employment support, information & orientation services, and community connection initiatives for eligible individuals. Additionally, the program advocates for newcomer interests, fosters a welcoming environment through multicultural experiences, community education, and collaborates with stakeholders to enhance integration and support.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Newcomer Information & Support Worker plays an integral role in the ELMS program by ensuring high-quality service delivery and achieving program and contract outcomes. They support eligible clients through comprehensive case management by providing information, orientation and referral services, facilitating events and activities, and supporting clients in defining and reaching their settlement goals.
The Newcomer Information & Support Worker assesses clients' needs and strengths, develops individualized action plans, and connects newcomers with available community resources. By fostering meaningful connections, and working collaboratively with community stakeholders and service providers, they also strengthen local networks, promote integration, and ensure clients have the resources and support needed to achieve positive settlement goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Conduct needs and strengths assessments and develop individualized settlement plans in collaboration with clients, reaching agreement on objectives, services, and activities.
• Empower clients by collaborating with them to define and achieve their settlement goals, and reach agreements on desired objectives, services and activities.
• Provide professional, accurate, and timely information, orientation, and referral services to clients (one-on-one and group settings).
• Guide clients in accessing appropriate programs and services for which they are eligible, including liaising with service providers to connect clients with available economic, legal, social, health, educational, recreational and recreational resources.
• Assist clients with making appointments, navigating websites, email and video conferencing tools, and completing written and online various application and renewal forms (ie. child tax benefit, childcare subsidy, CPP, MSP, OAS, etc).
• Educate clients concerning their rights and responsibilities as residents, workers, and citizens.
• Conduct group information sessions and workshops using a variety of service delivery methods and invite guest speakers as needed.
• Record, maintain, and report client data and information through relevant platforms in accordance with program and funder requirements.
• Work with clients and stakeholders to identify themes and topics for workshops, information sessions and social activities that improve the settlement experience for newcomers.
• Assist with other ELMS program activities as needed (e.g., activities and events, volunteer management, and other settlement initiatives).
QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant post-secondary education in immigration services, adult education, social services, employment services, or a related discipline, combined with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in the same or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A demonstrated knowledge of community resources, government programs and other available services.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Detail-oriented and organized with the skills to plan and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Experience working with diverse people, including those from various linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Personable and professional attitude ensuring clients feel valued, respected and comfortable seeking support, while protecting client confidentiality.
• An understanding and compassionate approach to working with newcomers who may face additional challenges such as trauma, limited education, or low confidence.
• Ability to provide services effectively to clients in one-on-one and group formats, as well as by outreach and remote access methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, case management systems, virtual communication and social media platforms, and promotional material design and marketing tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to deliver prompt and accurate reports and presentations.
• Self-directed and able to work well independently and as part of a team.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Familiar with and adhere to the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Association.
• Represent the Association positively and professionally at all times.
• Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of confidentiality.
• Undergo a Criminal Record Search as and when required by the Association.
