About this role
Compliance Consultant – UK Education (First Call Education)
Location: Cape Town (office-based) Hours: UK hours (GMT/BST), Monday to Friday Compensation: Competitive basic salary
About Us
First Call Education is the UK education recruitment brand of First Call Employment Limited, part of the A24 Group. We place supply teachers, teaching assistants, SEND specialists and school support staff into primary, secondary and SEN schools across London and the Home Counties.
Our edge is speed without shortcuts. Schools trust us because every candidate we send is fully vetted and safe to be in front of children. We need sharp, driven compliance consultants who take that seriously and can move fast.
The Role
You’ll own the candidate compliance pipeline from registration through to fully cleared. You’ll make sure every teacher and support worker meets UK safer-recruitment standards before they set foot in a school. This is a target-driven role: you’ll be measured on how many candidates you clear, how quickly, and how accurately.
What You’ll Do
• Manage candidate compliance files from end to end, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and DfE safer-recruitment guidance
• Process and track Enhanced DBS checks with Children’s Barred List, including DBS Update Service status checks
• Verify right to work, identity documents and proof of address to UK Home Office standards
• Run QTS and prohibition checks through the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) portal
• Get overseas police certificates for candidates who have lived or worked abroad
• Chase, collect and verify references covering at least two years of employment history, including the most recent school
• Review CVs for employment gaps and make sure each gap is explained and recorded
• Push candidates to send their documents quickly by phone, email and WhatsApp while keeping the relationship warm
• Keep candidate records accurate and audit-ready on our CRM
• Work closely with the UK consultants so compliant candidates go straight into live bookings
• Flag risks, expired documents and renewals before they become a problem
What You’ll Bring
• At least 1–2 years in recruitment compliance, vetting, onboarding or HR administration (UK experience strongly preferred)
• Working knowledge of KCSIE, DBS processes and UK right-to-work checks, or the ability to learn them fast
• Outstanding attention to detail, because one missed check is one too many
• Confident, professional phone manner with UK candidates
• The ability to handle a high volume of files, with the drive to hit daily and weekly clearance targets
• Strong written English
• Comfort working in CRM and compliance systems
• Availability to work UK hours
• Matric is essential; a tertiary qualification is advantageous
What We Offer
• Competitive basic salary.
• Full training on UK education compliance and safer-recruitment standards
• A fast-moving start-up environment backed by an established international group
• Clear progression as First Call Education grows
• A team that rewards accuracy, pace and ownership
