DESCRIPTION: MACARTHUR PARK VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY INFORMATION ON SCHOOL SITE(S): The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at MacArthur Park Elementary for the Visual and Performing Arts School towards academic excellence. MacArthur Park Elementary School for the Visual and Performing Arts is located in a densely populated area of Los Angeles located in the Westlake District which includes Pico-Union, which is bordered by Downtown Los Angeles on the southeast, Santa Monica Freeway, Korea town on the west, Virgil Village on the north, and Echo Park on the northeast. MacArthur Park ES currently serves 319 students in UTK-5th Grade. The school is located at 2300 West 7th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90057.Of our total enrollment 98.40% of the students are economically disadvantaged. 94% of the student population is Latino and speak Spanish as a first language, whereas 56.4% of the student population is classified as English Learners. There are also a small percentage of students whose families speak an indigenous language as their native tongue. The other group consist of .05% African American, .006% Asian, .009% white, .003% Two or more races and .003% not reported. We currently have 9 Language and Literacy in English Acceleration Program (LEAP) classes grades UTK-5th grade, 7 Dual Language Spanish Classes in Grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our relationship with the community is promoted through various workshops and special events (Fall Festival, Literacy Nights, Math Nights, ArtFest, Holiday Performances, Orchestra Recitals, monthly Reading to Kids events, ArtsUpLA, and Award Ceremonies). THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: Will be a visionary and innovative leader who will contribute to a culture of collaboration, interdependence, and mutual accountability. The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge and experiences with diverse populations of students (GATE, EL, SWD, dual language) and is committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders with the purpose of fostering a school environment that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, safety and cleanliness, and strong partnerships with parents and the community. The ideal candidate has effective oral and written communication skills; and knowledge of State, Federal, and LAUSD policies, procedures, and regulations. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with California Standards, the Teaching and Learning Framework, the Master Plan for English Learners, and initiatives such as ELLP and Dual Language program (Spanish). The ideal candidate will have experience with MyData, MISIS, and other District data reporting dashboards and tracking systems. SALARY: 40G - E Basis ($133,756 - $166,589) – 234 paid days For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit. For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the district resolves an under or overpayment). Selected individuals may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING): Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position. Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: (All minimum requirements must be met on or before the filing deadline. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
