Job summary
The post holder will join the Maintenance Team within the Estates Department, providing a senior level of technical support across planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair services across the Trust's estate.
The post holder will use their specialist engineering knowledge and experience to diagnose and resolve complex faults across a broad range of mechanical, electrical, building services, plant and equipment, ensuring the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the Trust's estate.
The post holder will assess and prioritise work, determine appropriate technical solutions and coordinate maintenance activities to minimise disruption to clinical services. They will provide technical advice and support to other members of the Maintenance Team and escalate issues requiring additional specialist input where appropriate.
The post holder will support the delivery and monitoring of planned maintenance programmes, respond to breakdowns and emergency situations, and contribute to ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, NHS guidance, Trust policies and recognised engineering standards.
The role requires sound technical judgement, effective problem-solving and a strong commitment to safety, quality and service delivery within a complex healthcare environment.
This post attracts a £5,000 per annum long-term Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) in addition to the advertised salary, subject to the Trust's RRP policy.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Estates professional, you will play a key role in maintaining the Trust's buildings, engineering services and critical infrastructure, ensuring a safe, compliant and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Working within the multi-skilled Estates team, you will undertake and support planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, complex fault diagnosis, repairs and installations across mechanical, electrical and building services. You will work with a high degree of autonomy, using your technical knowledge and judgement to identify faults, determine appropriate solutions and minimise disruption to clinical services.
You will work across a wide range of systems including heating, ventilation, domestic water, drainage, electrical services, building fabric, fire doors, building management systems (BMS), nurse call systems and other critical Estates assets.
You will provide technical advice and support to colleagues, assist with the coordination and prioritisation of maintenance activities, and contribute to statutory compliance including water safety, fire safety and engineering inspections, in accordance with HTMs, British Standards and Trust procedures.
The role includes responding to complex engineering breakdowns, maintaining accurate electronic maintenance records and participating in flexible working and out-of-hours arrangements as required, subject to appropriate training and competency.

Experience Essential
Previous experience of working within an NHS, healthcare or similarly complex operational environment Experience of supervising, supporting or providing practical guidance to Maintenance Assistants, apprentices or less experienced staff Experience of using electronic maintenance management/CAFM systems or similar electronic work recording systems Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance/Estates team Experience of working within a customer-focused repairs and maintenance service Experience of working in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work Experience of working independently, assessing defects and determining appropriate repair or remedial actions within own competence Experience of undertaking planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and completing associated maintenance and compliance records Experience of undertaking Water Safety maintenance activities on domestic hot and cold water systems in an NHS setting Experience of fault finding, maintenance and repair of mechanical building services, including domestic hot and cold water systems, heating systems, pumps, valves and associated plant Significant experience of planned and reactive mechanical maintenance within a building services environment
Education/Knowledge and Qualifications Essential
Recognised apprenticeship or craft qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing or Building Services Engineering, e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent Relevant recognised training or qualification in Water Safety/Legionella control and maintenance
Desirable
Training/qualification in microbiological water sampling Relevant Competent Person training in Water Safety, Ventilation/HVAC and/or Pressure Systems GCSE Grade 3 (or equivalent) or above in Maths GCSE Grade 3 (or equivalent) or above in English
