Job summary

NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is seeking an ambitious and highly motivated Risk, Health and Safety Manager to join our Corporate Services Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of high-quality risk management systems and processes, and a robust health and safety service for the ICB.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Governance and Risk Team, you will:

Lead the development and maintenance of the Board Assurance Framework and Corporate Risk Register.

Support directors and senior managers to identify, assess and manage strategic and operational risks.

Coordinate and provide expert advice on risk management, governance and assurance matters.

Manage the ICB's corporate incident reporting and investigation processes.

Oversee claims management and liaison with NHS Resolution.

Act as the organisation's competent person for health and safety, providing expert guidance on legislative compliance.

Develop and deliver training programmes on risk management, health and safety, fire safety and incident reporting.

Produce high-quality reports and assurance papers for senior leadership teams, committees and the Board.

As part of a wider team of governance and risk professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring that the ICB has effective systems, policies and processes in place to manage risk proactively. Working closely with the Head of Governance and Risk and the Director of Corporate Services, you will help embed a strong culture of risk management throughout the organisation while supporting high-quality incident management, legal, claims, and health and safety services.

You will bring a proactive, collaborative approach, strong judgement and the ability to balance strategic oversight with practical delivery. As a supportive line manager, you will be committed to developing colleagues.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Extensive knowledge of risk management. Knowledge of relevant legislation. An understanding of the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Desirable

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships within and beyond the ICB. Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development and management training.

Qualifications Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent or significant experience of working in a similar role at senior level. Post-registration/graduate diploma level or equivalent training and in-depth experience in relevant function, or working towards (Professionally qualified or undertaking professional development). Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) qualification or working towards the qualification. Significant prior experience of working in a related field. Experience of working effectively with highly confidential and sensitive information. Experience of leading and managing a team. Experience of meeting strict deadlines, working under pressure and dealing with conflicting priorities.

Desirable

National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) qualification or working towards the qualification (desirable with a view to completing this qualification in the future). NHS experience Experience of working with risk management software.

Highly resilient with the ability to cope under pressure. Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and ensure a customer focused response. Credible, trustworthy, and able to inspire confidence in others. Able to work both independently where required and as a team and corporate player. Able to work across several sites in West Yorkshire.
