About this role

Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Physician in General Internal Medicine to join the Trust's General Internal Medicine (GIM) Directorate at New Cross Hospital. This is a locum consultant post created to strengthen consultant-delivered inpatient care for the acute medical take and its downstream GIM bed base.

The post is a dedicated General Internal Medicine appointment. The successful candidate will hold a base GIM ward, deliver daily consultant-led board rounds and ward rounds, and contribute to the acute medical take through the consultant GIM on-call rota. The post carries no subspecialty outpatient commitment: the design deliberately separates generalist inpatient care from specialty activity so that GIM inpatients receive continuous, named consultant care that is not interrupted by competing specialty sessions.

The job plan comprises 10.0 programmed activities: 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activities. The 1.5 SPA allocation is required for continuing professional development, appraisal, audit and revalidation.

The appointee will join a consultant GIM on-call rota at an expected frequency of 1 in 8, Category A, attracting an availability supplement of 5% of full-time basic salary.

Main duties of the job

To provide consultant-delivered care to general internal medicine inpatients on an allocated base ward at New Cross Hospital, acting as the named responsible consultant for those patients.
