We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join our Sexual Health Service as a Band 5 Registered Nurse Training Post. This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse wishing to develop a career in sexual and reproductive healthcare. No previous sexual health qualifications are required, as the successful candidate will be supported through a structured training programme to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to deliver high-quality sexual health care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide patient-centred contraceptive care, health promotion, screening, testing and support to a diverse range of service users within a busy and progressive service. We are looking for a compassionate, non-judgemental nurse with excellent communication skills, a commitment to learning and a passion for improving sexual health outcomes.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will maintain accurate clinical records, contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, and ensure care is delivered in accordance with professional standards, Trust policies and the NMC Code. The role requires a professional, compassionate and non-judgemental approach to caring for individuals from diverse backgrounds in a confidential and inclusive environment.
The post holder post hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a car that can be used for work purposes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver holistic sexual health and reproductive healthcare to individuals attending the service. This will be achieved through comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation of treatment and evaluation of outcomes. The successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme to develop the specialist knowledge and clinical competencies required to provide high-quality sexual health care.
Following the completion of relevant training and competency assessments, the post holder will provide a range of sexual health interventions including the administration and/or supply of all methods of contraception, insertion, removal and replacement of contraceptive implants, sexual health screening, testing and treatment. The role will involve undertaking male and female genital examinations, performing and interpreting microscopy, obtaining cervical cytology samples, and contributing to the management of sexually transmitted infections.
The post holder will promote sexual health and wellbeing through the provision of health promotion, education and prevention advice, supporting patients to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health. They will identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, working in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to protect vulnerable adults and children.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team working under the direction of line manager/Matron.
Assess care needs.
Develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care for young people accessing Contraceptive Services.
The focus of the post holders role will be clinical with specialist young persons clinics, outreach visits, clinical review and administration relating to young people and child protection and core sexual health service provision.
The post holder will actively try and engage young people who are unwilling/unable to attend mainstream services.
Undertake all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and take charge in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.
Be expected to manage extremely sensitive situations.
Identify any child safeguarding issues and adhere to the Trust safeguarding policies and procedures.
Identify those young people who are at high risk of pregnancy and provide support and education with regards to contraception and safer sex.
The post holder will see clients on an individual basis, assess, plan, implement and evaluate a programme of client care which is evidence-based utilising all available resources and taking into consideration lifestyle, race, gender, family and cultural background and ensure involvement, as appropriate with the client, family carers and significant others. They will demonstrate competence and sensitivity in undertaking a detailed sexual and social history to establish the needs of the individual client and support, counsel or refer for advice as appropriate.
Provide nurse led outreach sexual health clinics to young people in secure units, seeing clients who are often the most difficult and complex to engage in maintaining good sexual health.
Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field through the use of evidence-based practice and in line with agreed national standards and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.
Provide safeguarding, young persons governance and follow up by means of a virtual diary for all young people where there are any concerns. These concerns come from counselling, nursing and medical staff throughout the service.
Work as an autonomous practitioner within their sphere of practice.
Continuously improve clinical standards in line with clinical governance framework.
Exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code.
Contribute to training and education within the specialist area.
Provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and clinical staff within the Trust on the management and care of patients within the specialist area.
Provide direct access for patients, either face to face or telephone consultation Represent the service nationwide in the absence of the line manager/Matron.
Play a key role in ensuring that national and local standards/targets for the specialist area are met.
