About this role

Job Requirements Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our state-of-the-art regional medical center (University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

The Capital Region Violence Intervention Program (CAP-VIP) Violence Intervention Specialist will leverage their position, reputation, and credibility to disrupt the cycle of violence; identify conflict and provide mediation services while serving as a conduit to the CAP-VIP team.

The Intervention Specialist will identify and establish rapport with vulnerable populations who may benefit from the CAP-VIP, using strong and effective communication skills. Serves as an additional form of social support, maintaining contact throughout the entire length of involvement in the program. Will provide information in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate to the needs of the population being served, including individuals with limited English proficiency and disabilities. Strives to recruit, obtain consent, and engage participants in the CAP-VIP program activities.

Additional responsibilities:

· Collects preliminary data for enrollment into the CAP-VIP program. · Refers potential participants to Social Worker/Case Worker/Navigator. · Ensures participants have access to and are utilizing/optimizing identified resources. · Gains information on real and potential conflicts in community service areas, responding as appropriate. · Conducts participant welfare checks via telephone or home visits. · Researches causes and formulates action plans to aid in conflict resolution and acts of violence. · Identifies and develops partnerships with influential individuals/groups/businesses in the community. · Ensures familiarity with service areas. · Participates in violence prevention efforts with other providers, as appropriate. · Attends all CAP-VIP meetings.

Work Experience Related training: Completed Course Work/Program: Cure Violence Training program; National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs (NNHVIP) Professional Certification Training
