Are you an experienced professional ready to take on a diverse research and administration role as a Division Manager with the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London?
The postholder will provide high-quality, customer-focused support across staffing, research management (pre- and post-award), and local financial management.
What you would be doing
Manage a portfolio of research grants and funding applications from proposal development through to award management and closure. Provide proactive financial, contractual, and compliance advice to academics and research teams. Deliver accurate reporting, analysis, and guidance to support effective research project management. Manage divisional finances, providing analysis, insight and assurance on budgets, grants and expenditure. Lead and develop administrative staff, driving high standards of service, performance and continuous improvement. Work across the University and with external partners to ensure research activity is delivered efficiently, compliantly and in line with strategic priorities.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced and skilled individual who can bring excellent organisational skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach. You should have:
Significant experience of research finance, grant management or research administration within a complex organisation, with the ability to interpret and apply funding and governance requirements. Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience of managing budgets, monitoring expenditure and using Excel to analyse and present information. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to build credibility, influence decisions and provide constructive challenge to academics and colleagues at all levels. The ability to manage multiple priorities and see the bigger picture, understanding how decisions in one area can impact wider operational, financial and compliance requirements. A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with sound judgement, attention to detail and the confidence to work independently whilst operating within agreed policies and procedures. Balances excellent customer service with a firm understanding of policy, compliance and governance requirements. Takes ownership, exercises good judgement and thrives in a busy environment with competing priorities.
