Applications are invited for a stipendiary Research Fellowship in the fields of Music, Education, Architecture, Asian & Middle Eastern Studies, or Classics. Research Fellowship will normally be tenable for three years from 1 October 2027. The Fellowship is open to graduates, men or women, of any University, with no age limit, but will normally be awarded to candidates who have recently completed their PhD or are close to completion. Candidates are expected to have a PhD (or equivalent research experience) by the commencement of the Fellowship on 1 October 2027. The function of this Fellowship is as initial (normally) post-doctoral positions appropriate to the start of an academic career.
The current pensionable stipend for a Stipendiary Research Fellow in the first year is currently £24,076 increasing to £27,232 in the third year; this is eligible for the University cost of living increase.
Stipendiary Research Fellows will be offered single accommodation in College, for which a service charge is payable.
The prime duty of a Research Fellow will be to pursue research, and they will be expected to provide a written report on the progress of their research each year.
All Research Fellows are members of the Governing Body and receive a Fellowship stipend, as well as full dining rights entitling them to seven free meals a week. Research Fellows can also apply for up to £800 a year to support research expenses. Additionally, £300 of book grants are available to Research Fellows on application. There is also College accommodation at advantageous rates, subject to availability.
Churchill College, Clare College, Fitzwilliam College, Murray Edwards College, and Trinity Hall operate a Joint Application Scheme for Early Career Research Fellowships, with a total of eight Fellowships offered for 2027.

Applications will be considered by all Colleges offering Fellowships in the relevant field. Competition is likely to be intense; in 2025 almost 1300 applications were received.
