The Tower Technician I is a developing field technician on a three-person Utilities One Wireless Services crew. The technician supports tower installation, upgrades, maintenance, and closeout while learning the skills required for safe, reliable field execution. This role works under the Tower Foreman, with task guidance from the Tower Technician II. Duties progress from site preparation and ground support to technical and elevated work as training and demonstrated competence allow. Climbing, rescue, rigging, testing, and equipment operation require the appropriate training and authorization before assignment. Report ready for the assigned workday and review tasks, hazards, equipment, and instructions with the foreman. Help receive, count, inspect, stage, load, and unload tools and equipment. Report shortages or damage before they delay the crew. Prepare and organize approved hardware, cables, connectors, and tools for installation under the direction of the foreman or Tower Technician II. Assist with antenna, radio, mount, cable, grounding, labeling, and weatherproofing work within completed training and assigned duties. Provide ground support and assist with lifting activities only within training, under the designated lead’s direction, and using approved methods. Complete basic installation and elevated tasks only after training, demonstrated competence, and authorization. Ask for help when instructions or site conditions are unclear. Participate in daily safety briefings and understand the hazards, emergency arrangements, and limits of the assigned task. Inspect and correctly use assigned protective equipment and tools. Report hazards, equipment defects, fatigue, and unsafe conditions immediately; stop work when necessary. Follow site controls for falls, dropped objects, lifting, radiofrequency exposure, electricity, and weather. Remain clear of restricted areas and suspended loads. Complete required training and practical evaluations before climbing or performing other specialized work. Participate in refresher training and drills appropriate to the role. Follow approved instructions and do not operate unfamiliar equipment, alter live systems, or attempt work beyond training and authorization. Understand assigned daily tasks and report completion, questions, and delays to the foreman. Support the crew’s work sequence and keep the next task prepared. Record actual hours daily with the correct project and activity codes, including required preparation, loading, meetings, training, and reporting. Record travel and waiting time for payroll review. Obtain direction through the foreman before working beyond the approved schedule. Report unexpected overtime and record all hours worked, whether or not approved in advance. Never work off the clock or change hours to fit a budget. Follow required breaks and report timekeeping errors for correction. Capture photos, labels, equipment counts, and other records as instructed. Report errors and rework honestly so the crew can correct them. Keep tools, supplies, and the work area organized. Return equipment to its assigned location and help secure the shared vehicle and locking trailer. Protect installed equipment and customer property. Separate reusable items, returns, and waste according to project instructions. Assist with final checks, cleanup, inventory, and closeout tasks before the crew leaves the site. Support vehicle and equipment checks and report defects. Drive company vehicles or operate equipment only when appropriately licensed, trained, and authorized.
