There’s nothing more exciting than being at the center of a rapidly growing field in technology and applying your skillsets to drive innovation and modernize the world's most complex and mission-critical systems.
As a Site Reliability Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, Lending Technology team, you will solve complex and broad business problems with simple and straightforward solutions. Through code and cloud infrastructure, you will configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize applications and their associated infrastructure to independently decompose and iteratively improve on existing solutions. You are a significant contributor to your team by sharing your knowledge of end-to-end operations, availability, reliability, and scalability of your application or platform.
Job responsibilities
• Uses enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis, validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements. • Applies enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to identify patterns in operational signals that indicate reliability risk or recurring toil, prioritizing reuse-first improvements tied to SLO outcomes. • Own production stability for CIB Wholesale Lending Services, including real-time monitoring, incident response, and restoring service quickly with clear mitigation plans. • Drive “shift-left” reliability by identifying issues early in the SDLC (pre-prod → prod), partnering with engineers to address reliability gaps before customer impact. • Build and continuously improve observability (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting), identify blind spots, and propose improvements to close monitoring/telemetry gaps. • Perform deep troubleshooting across the full system (application + infrastructure dependencies), using code-level understanding to accelerate triage and root cause isolation. • Lead and/or contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviews; translate findings into durable fixes and measurable reliability outcomes. • Reduce toil through automation (runbooks, self-healing, standardization, operational tooling) and prioritize work tied to SLO/SLI outcomes. • Manage infrastructure/platform lifecycle activities that affect reliability (e.g., upgrades, migrations), ensuring safe rollout and minimal downtime. • Engineer resiliency patterns (e.g., failover readiness, multi-region considerations, redundancy) and validate that applications meet resiliency expectations in production.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
• Formal training or certification on site reliability engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience. • Proficient in site reliability culture and principles and familiarity with how to implement site reliability within an application or platform • Proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Java/Spring Boot, and .Net • Working knowledge of using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to support SRE workflows with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity • Ability to validate AI-assisted operational recommendations before applying changes, escalating when uncertain and following data sensitivity requirements • Proficient knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a given technical discipline (e.g., Cloud, AI, Android, etc.) • Strong grounding in core SRE concepts (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, on-call best practices, reliability vs. velocity tradeoffs). • Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues end-to-end, including reading logs/metrics/traces and interpreting system behavior across multiple components. • Working knowledge of infrastructure fundamentals (compute/network/storage, deployments, configuration) sufficient to diagnose and mitigate issues under time pressure. • Code understanding for troubleshooting (you don’t need to be the product builder, but must be able to reason about code paths, configs, and runtime behavior). • Experience designing/operating production monitoring and alerting and improving signal quality (reduce noise, improve actionability).
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
• Hands-on experience with observability platforms and practices (instrumentation standards, telemetry strategy, service-level alerting). • Experience with automation/toil reduction initiatives (operational tooling, runbook automation, self-service workflows). • Experience supporting platform upgrades, migrations, and reliability hardening for mission-critical systems. • Experience implementing/validating resiliency approaches such as multi-region deployment patterns and failover testing/operational readiness. • Comfort working in teams where SRE partners closely with engineering but is not primarily responsible for building product features (focus is operational excellence and reliability).
