About this role

Job summary Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Neuroscience Occupational Therapy team have an exciting opportunity for 1.0 WTE (37.5hrs) Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant to become part of our team.

We are looking for a competent and confident Therapy assistant to join our team who will work both autonomously & as part of the MDT.

The role involves delivering Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment under the supervision of a registered therapist to in-patients on the stroke rehabilitation ward at Chapel Allerton Hospital. This will include a range of activities such as practicing daily living activities e.g. personal care & domestic skills; carrying out cognitive screens; group work with patients, assisting therapists with splinting and the assessment, delivery and fitting of equipment in patients homes to help patients be discharged.

Post holders must be able to move and handle patients with physical impairments, including hoisting and the pushing of wheelchairs.

Main duties of the job To work as part of the therapy team, providing skilled clinical, administrative and organisational support to Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to aid the rehabilitation of patients.

To accept patients referred by an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist and to be responsible for these designated patients, planning and prioritising the caseload appropriately.

To treat patients according to set protocols, care pathways and guidelines; assessing and monitoring progress, making alterations to individual treatment programmes as required.

To work unsupervised within guidelines, reporting back patient progress and informing the referring therapist of any non-routine problems and enquiries.

Supervision of clinical activities is mainly indirect.

Job Summary We are looking for an individual who possesses strong communication skills, is able to work within a team, use his/her initiative and work flexibly. The role involves some administrative duties so applicants must be IT proficient. Successful candidates will receive regular support and supervision. Training will be in the form of joint working with experienced therapists, support workers and team training.

Applicants must have previous experience of working as an assistant in a hospital / nursing home / therapy environment and evidence this. Your application form should also detail an understanding of occupational therapy and care of patients who have had a stroke.
