About this role

Job summary

The Reynard Surgery is looking for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part-time basis, for 16 hours per week working across 2 days.

Main duties of the job

Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately. Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines. Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session. Update patient health records. Ensure that medical supplies are in stock. Act as a chaperone where required. Assist GP during the performance of minor operations. Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education. NHS patient healthchecks

The Reynard Surgery is a busy dispensing modern rural practice of 10.3k patients, located in Red Lodge. Red Lodge is a growing village located between Mildenhall/Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. We cover a large sprawling catchment area of local villages. We have an unusally young patient demographic due to continued housing developments in the area.

Person Specification

The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are only looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience. All applicants should ensure that they live within reasonable commuting distance. All applicants should have the following skills and qualifications: Essential

Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent. Experience of working within a GP practice or other care environment Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues. Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills.
