About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Band 3 Maternity Support Worker to join our maternity team. Working under the supervision of registered midwives, you will support women, babies and families throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period, providing high-quality care across hospital and community settings. The role includes supporting clinical care, promoting health and wellbeing, infant feeding support, undertaking delegated clinical duties and working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, personalised maternity care.

Main duties of the job

Support women, babies and families during the antenatal and postnatal period.

Assist midwives in delivering compassionate, high quality care in the hospital setting.

Undertake delegated clinical observations and care activities within competency.

Promote healthy lifestyles, infant feeding and family wellbeing.

Maintain accurate electronic patient records and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.

Provide infant feeding education and handson support.

Work within Trust policies and guidelines.

Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Knowledge of clinical patient observations Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment e.g. blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, cannulation etc.

Qualifications Essential

GCSE Maths and English or qualified to equivalent Functional skills level 2 in Maths & English or willingness to undertake Completion of a clinical skills competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3 or willingness to undertake Care certificate or willingness to undertake within 12 weeks of employment Completion of the core MSW competencies in the main area of their employment within 6 months of interview and acceptance onto the programme.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Utilisation of planning and organisational skills Insight into roles responsibilities of post Basic IT skills Good interpersonal skills Team working Ability to organise and prioritise workload Competent in written, electronic and verbal communication skills

Proficient communication skills in any language additional the English.

Experience Essential

At least 6 months of care experience working within an acute health care setting delivering personal and clinical care.

Experience of working within a community setting Significant experience of working within maternity services (desirable)
