Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at Medical Examiner Southampton as a customer-focused, friendly and enthusiastic individual.
As part of our team you will deliver a now statutory requirement of review following death.
You will work closely with both hospital and community clinicians to ensure robust scrutiny and great communication at this time of great importance for families.

Job description Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for working alongside the medical examiners and other MEOs in order to facilitate timely and effective review of cases.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include;
To act as an intermediary voice between the bereaved, clinicians and bereavement service.
To establish and resolve any concerns relating to a patients death. Work with medical examiners to aid them in their responsibility for overseeing the death certification process for all deceased patients in both hospital and community settings.
Provide preliminary scrutiny and accurate documentation to aid and establish the cause of death.
You are a remote customer-facing service and require excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
You should have an inquiring mind and attention to detail.
You must be empathetic, professional reliable and proficient in using IT systems.
The role is 15 hours a week and the office is open 8.30-4.30 Monday to Friday (No weekends or BH).
Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience Essential
Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with previous experience in a relevant healthcare setting Completed e-learning MEO core training modules prior to starting in the post Experience of working with the patient safety team, bereavement care team or within the mortality review process. General knowledge of clinical/medical terminology Competent in the use of IT software systems and handling sensitive personal identifiable data
Desirable
Experience of working in a healthcare setting with multi-disciplinary teams across organisational boundaries Specialist knowledge of various faith groups' funeral wishes/practices to enable respectful compliance with tight and specific timescales and procedures Knowledge of the Coroner & Justice Act 2009 reference to the medical examiner system. Full understanding of the medical examiner system operational remit when incorporated within Bereavement Services or as a stand-alone office.
