Interim Lending Attorney – International Bank
Overview: The International Banking Institution seeks a LendingAttorney.
Company: International Japanese Banking Institution.
Experience: At least 3-4 years of experience supporting banking or finance activities, with a desire for candidates with strong syndicated and bilateral credit facilities and related loan documentation experience.
Location: NYC Hybrid Ideal (4 days per week in office). Will look at remote candidates.
Responsibilities include:
• Review, draft, negotiate, and provide legal advice in connection with:
• Bilateral credit facilities. • Syndicated credit facilities (as agent, lead arranger, participant, or lender). • Amendments, waivers, consents, and restructurings. • Ancillary banking products and related transaction documentation.
• Support the JCIB and GCIB and its client coverage teams in structuring and executing financing transactions. • Advise business units on legal, regulatory, and credit risks associated with lending activities and banking products. • Support enterprise-wide and departmental initiatives, including legal process improvements, policy development, technology implementation, and strategic projects. • Participate in and advise on cross-border transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, including transactions involving Japan-based stakeholders and clients. • Work closely with internal legal colleagues across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC to provide seamless legal support. • Directly interact with clients, external counsel, and counterparties in connection with transaction negotiations and product discussions. • Provide legal, credit, and regulatory training to business and legal colleagues. • Manage relationships with outside counsel and support efficient management of external legal spend.
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. • Admission to practice law in New York (or eligibility to waive into New York). • Approximately 3-4 years of relevant legal experience. • Experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department supporting banking or finance activities. • Strong experience with syndicated and bilateral credit facilities and related loan documentation. • Ability to identify, analyze, and appropriately manage legal and commercial risks. • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. • Sound judgment and strong business-oriented problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting a corporate and investment banking business. • Familiarity with a broad range of banking products, including treasury services, trade finance, foreign exchange, derivatives, letters of credit, and cash management products. • Experience advising on cross-border transactions. • Experience supporting new product development, product governance, or product approval processes. • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks applicable to large financial institutions.
Desired Skills and Attributes
• Japanese language proficiency (spoken and/or written) is highly desirable. • Experience working with Japanese financial institutions, Japanese clients, or Japanese corporate cultures is preferred. • Familiarity with the Japanese legal market and law firm environment is beneficial. • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cultures and time zones. • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team. • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new business areas, products, and legal disciplines. • Calm and professional approach when managing complex issues, competing priorities, and tight deadlines. • Commitment to delivering practical, client-focused legal advice aligned with business objectives.
