About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Senior NEC Project Manager with strong construction delivery experience and a practical understanding of site operations and construction activities.
You will be responsible for managing projects throughout the delivery lifecycle, ensuring contractors perform against contractual obligations, programme milestones, budgetary requirements, and quality expectations. Working alongside construction managers, commercial teams, designers, contractors, and client stakeholders, you will drive delivery performance while maintaining strong governance and safety standards.
The successful candidate will be confident operating within challenging construction environments, capable of holding contractors to account, resolving delivery issues, and making informed decisions to keep projects on track.
This role requires a hands-on project manager who is comfortable spending significant time on site, engaging directly with delivery teams and contractor organisations to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Managing the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects from mobilisation through to completionActing as the NEC Project Manager and administering projects in accordance with NEC contract requirementsMonitoring contractor performance against programme, cost, quality, and safety objectivesManaging site-based delivery activities and ensuring works progress in line with agreed schedulesChallenging contractors where performance, quality, safety, or programme commitments are not being metCoordinating contractors, consultants, client teams, and key stakeholders throughout deliveryManaging project governance, reporting, risks, issues, actions, and dependenciesReviewing and approving contractor submissions, programmes, compensation events, and change requestsSupporting commercial teams with contract administration and project controls activitiesEnsuring compliance with health and safety legislation, industry standards, and site proceduresConducting site inspections, progress reviews, and delivery assurance activitiesProducing regular project reports and delivery updates for senior stakeholdersFacilitating project meetings, contractor reviews, and governance forumsManaging stakeholder expectations and maintaining effective communication throughout project deliveryDriving project performance to achieve successful delivery against scope, budget, and programme objectives About You Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering construction, infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities, or major capital projectsPractical understanding of construction site operations, sequencing, and delivery activitiesStrong experience administering and managing NEC3 and/or NEC4 contractsDemonstrable experience managing contractors and subcontractors within live construction environmentsAbility to challenge contractor performance and drive accountability for delivery outcomesExperience managing project schedules, budgets, risks, issues, and change control processesStrong stakeholder management skills across operational, technical, commercial, and executive teamsExcellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution capabilitiesKnowledge of health and safety legislation, CDM requirements, and construction best practiceStrong planning, organisational, and project governance skillsAbility to interpret project documentation, construction programmes, and delivery reportingProficiency with project management and reporting tools Nice to Have
Formal Project Management qualification such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalentNEC Project Manager accreditation or specialist NEC contract trainingExperience delivering projects within regulated or safety-critical environmentsKnowledge of compensation event management and contract change mechanismsExperience overseeing multidisciplinary construction teamsFamiliarity with infrastructure, rail, utilities, highways, defence, or public-sector capital programmesSMSTS, CSCS, or other relevant site-based qualificationsExperience leading contractor performance improvement initiativesDegree qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced NEC Project Manager who enjoys working close to delivery, understands the realities of a live construction site, and has the confidence to manage and challenge contractors to achieve successful project outcomes.
