District K-8 and Special Education Home Liaison Bilingual Required JOB TITLE: District K-8 and Special Education Home Liaison This is a temporary position expected to end December 31st, 2026 QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduation or equivalent; ability to work with all age children, school staff, and parents; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; bilingual required (English/Spanish); preferred Washington State Interpreter Certification, Associate of Arts/Business.Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment. REPORTS TO: The Director of Special Education. JOB GOAL: To assist with the special education and building contacts as needed to accomplish the goals and requirements of the special education program and building needs. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with the special education administrative assistant to obtain required parent forms and interview information.
• Work with the special education administrative assistant to complete purchase orders and credit card statements.
• Work with the special education administrative assistant to complete reports to support the special education budget.
• Assist in scheduling evaluations and IEPs; act as interpreter for evaluations and IEP meetings, as necessary.
• Translating for building meetings as needed.
• Assist in administering assessment instruments and procedures as needed for appropriate bilingual assessments.
• Facilitate the resolution of parent, student, and/or school issues for special education students as requested by the Director of Special Education.
• Maintain appropriate records of home visits.
• Able to understand and translate special education terminology.
• Work with special education families and students to assist in maintaining legal mandates.
• Transport students and parents to mental health, medical, or any appropriate related service as directed by the Director of Special Education.
• Transportation coordinator for the special education bus.
• Provide coverage for absent staff as needed and as directed by the Director of Special Education.
• Conduct and input yearly post-secondary survey data for state reporting within a strict timeline.
• Participate in scheduling, attending, and supporting district-wide parent involvement meetings.
• Hold a valid driver's license and personal car insurance.
• Take the annual driver safety course offered by the school district.
• Complete First Aid Certification through the school district.
• Complete the Right Response Certification through the school district.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Conduct home visits to obtain needed documents for special education and/or building needed documentation.
• Be able to perform job tasks as follows:
• Lift and carry 10-50 lbs frequently.
• Assist with lifting over 50 lbs.
• Provide care to clients in toileting; requires transferring weight skills.
• Use restraint techniques with clients when necessary.
• Be able to bend, kneel, squat, twist, turn, and extended arm use involving various weights frequently.
• Be on feet the majority of the workday
• Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Reports to Director of Special Education TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Classified schedule. LENGTH: Temporary position, expected to end in January 2027 SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day, Monday–Friday, generally 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. The daily schedule may be adjusted as needed to meet the needs of the department and may be changed by the Director of Special Education.
