GRANGER SCHOOL DISTRICT #204 Job Description Bilingual Required (English/Spanish) TITLE: Middle School ELA Teacher (8th Grade) 26-27 SY ONLY QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington State teaching certification with appropriate endorsement(s) for the assignment; ELA endorsement preferred. Coursework and/or experience appropriate to the assignment, professional judgment and discretion befitting an educator, successful completion of a background check including criminal history, and bilingual proficiency required. REPORTS TO: Building principal and district superintendent. JOB GOAL: To provide high-quality, standards-based instruction that fosters academic excellence, bilingualism, biliteracy, and positive student development in a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment. The teacher collaborates with students, families, colleagues, and administrators to support student achievement and promote equitable learning opportunities for all learners. Through effective instructional practices, professional collaboration, and continuous growth, the teacher contributes to the mission, vision, and goals of the school district. SUPERVISES: Students and para educators as assigned. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and the district's dual language curriculum.

• Implement the district's approved dual language instructional model with fidelity, ensuring balanced development of academic content and language proficiency in both program languages.

• Integrate curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that support bilingualism, biliteracy, cross-cultural competence, and high academic achievement.

• Use district-adopted curriculum and appropriate supplemental resources to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse academic, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of students.

• Design and maintain comprehensive lesson plans that reflect effective dual language instructional strategies and language objectives.

• Assess student learning using formative, summative, and required district and state assessments, using data to guide instructional decisions and language development.

• Differentiate instruction to support students with varying language proficiencies, including multilingual learners and students requiring targeted interventions.

• Create and maintain a positive, safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that values students' linguistic and cultural identities.

• Teach and reinforce high expectations for student behavior through a classroom management plan aligned with the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.

• Maintain effective classroom routines and utilize instructional materials and technology to maximize student engagement and learning.

• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and community members in both the required program languages whenever appropriate.

• Foster strong partnerships with families by maintaining open, ongoing communication regarding student academic progress, language development, attendance, and behavior.

• Respect, honor, and incorporate the diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of students and families into instruction and classroom practices.

• Actively participates in grade-level teams, professional learning communities, school committees, and other collaborative groups to improve instruction, student learning, and overall school effectiveness.

• Participate in ongoing professional learning related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, bilingual education, multilingual learner supports, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

• Support district and school improvement initiatives and implement evidence-based instructional strategies that promote equitable access and achievement for all learners.

• Participate in district assessments, professional development, staff meetings, and required in-service activities.

• Support Associated Student Body (ASB), extracurricular activities, family engagement events, and other school-sponsored programs as appropriate.

• Maintain accurate academic, behavioral, language proficiency, and cumulative student records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.

• Maintain assigned classrooms, instructional materials, technology, equipment, and inventories; report maintenance needs and complete required inventory documentation.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and staff in accordance with district policies and applicable state and federal laws.

• Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, reliability, ethical conduct, appropriate appearance, and positive collaboration with colleagues and administrators.

• Maintains a professional appearance and conducts oneself in a manner that reflects the standards and expectations of the educational profession.

• Remain knowledgeable about the social, cultural, political, and economic contexts of the school community and use that understanding to strengthen instructional practices and family partnerships.

• Comply with all district policies and procedures, Washington State requirements, and applicable federal and state grant regulations.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator(s) to support the mission, vision, goals, and effective operation of the school.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Has authority over students and para educators as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contractual agreement in accordance with WAC parameters of state laws and the negotiated agreement, the individual contract, district rules and regulations, and administrative directives. LENGTH: 180 Day Contract (26-27 SY ONLY) SCHEDULE: 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. SALARY AND BENEFITS: As determined by the Board of Directors, state law, local board policy and GEA bargaining agreement. EVALUATION: At least annually on or before May 1st by the building principal or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law, WAC's, GEA contract and district policy.
