About this role

POSITION SUMMARY The ideal candidate is responsible for instructional functions including but not limited to Beginning Teacher Program, Professional Development, Residency license Program, Leading Teacher Leadership Institute, oversight of the Mentor Program, being involved in and keeping abreast of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to new teachers, and other coordinating duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager. The Staff Development Coordinator reports to the Chief Talent Officer. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leads and designs professional development sessions and evaluates their effectiveness

• Supports the development of teacher growth plans and demonstrates instructional strategies

• Conducts classroom observations of beginning teachers and provides feedback

• Coordinates and leads the Teacher Leadership Institute, including monthly meetings, selection process, and online course facilitation

• Stays current with instructional best practices and integrates them into PD offerings

• Analyzes data on retention, assessment, and professional development needs to inform planning

• Assists in teacher recruitment and supports teacher retention efforts

• Plans and maintains the Professional Development library and intranet content

• Substitute Teacher Program

• Manages the hiring, onboarding, and training of substitute teachers

• Oversees daily substitute teacher assignments in collaboration with school leaders

• Ensures substitute coverage and compliance with HR policies

• Maintains an up-to-date and approved substitute pool

• Maintains the performance evaluation system for both teaching and non-teaching staff

• Oversees and ensures compliance with teacher evaluations using the NC Educator Evaluation System (NCEES)

• Monitors completion of evaluations for all staff and supports supervisors with related training and troubleshooting

• Licensure & New Staff Onboarding

• Assists employees with licensure applications, renewals, and questions

• Monitors and updates the licensure portal to track staff credentialing status

• Plans, develops, and leads new teacher orientation and onboarding sessions

• Trains new staff on TMSA systems, policies, and procedures

• Collaboration & Communication

• Works closely with school principals to support beginning teachers at school sites

• Communicates effectively with staff, school leaders, and HR regarding PD expectations and updates

• Collaborates with the HR Manager on staff development strategies and compliance matters

• Engages in continuous professional development to enhance leadership and instructional skills

• Remains current in state and federal education laws, policies, and professional development practices

• Carries out additional duties as assigned by the HR Manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree (required)

• Valid North Carolina Teaching License (required)

• 3–5 years of experience with the Beginning Teacher Program

• Demonstrated experience in designing and leading professional/staff development for adults

• Proficiency in technology tools, including Google Suite, LMS platforms, Google Sites, and presentation software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in a public charter school or similarly mission-driven educational setting.

• Familiarity with TMSA's academic model, student population, and Leader in Me framework.

• Bilingual abilities (English plus an additional language).

Note: The minimum starting salary shown includes a $6,000 incentive for the NC educator license. Unlicensed applicants are ineligble for the license salary incentive.
