JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS Job Description POSITION: Home Study Instructor IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Coordinator of Student Support and Special Programs FLSA STATUS: Exempt EMPLOYMENT TERM: 2026 Fall Semester or until Programmatic Change occurs. SALARY: $40 per hour EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Coordinator of Student Support and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy HOME STUDY INSTRUCTOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs duties efficiently and productively by:
• Delivering in-home special education instruction, aligned with IEP goals, as guided by the special education classroom teachers;
• Understanding, collecting, and securing instructional plans;
• Collaborating closely with classroom teachers, service providers, and families;
• Returning student work to classroom teachers for assessment and feedback;
• Addressing and implementing Individual Education Plans and 504 plans in accordance with Policy 2419; and
• Ensuring continuity of learning in a supportive and flexile environment
2. Builds and maintains positive public and employee relations by:
• Working cooperatively with parents, principals, assistant principals, school counselors, teachers, and other stakeholders supporting home study students and their families;
• Sharing appropriate information using official channels while respecting confidentiality and privacy;
3. Completes required responsibilities by:
• Recording all visits and contacts made with students, families, and school personnel accurately on a timely basis;
• Submitting required documentation for payroll promptly; and
• Completing other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Student Support.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in special education preferred, but not required
• Experience supporting children with special needs
• Willingness to meet in the homes of students who are unable to attend school due to medical or other qualifying circumstances
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, families, and school personnel
• Strong organizational and communication skills employing tact, patience, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
• Demonstrated expertise related to technology devices and applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and file sharing programs

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
