Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated dental nurse with excellent communication skills to join our Head and Neck Outpatient team at SRH

Head and Neck are a multi-speciality service covering ENT and Oral Maxillofacial surgery across both inpatients and outpatient areas, the service is delivered both on site and in offsite facilities in Durham and South Tyneside.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, organised and committed to giving high quality nursing care and able to work autonomously as well as part of the team.

You will consistently ensure that a patients dignity and psychological well-being is always maintained and that the care given is patient centred.

You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We require an individual who is forward thinking and who will support and encourage service improvements.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Sunderland Royal (SRH) Hospital, however, will be required to work at any of our sites i.e. Durham Treatment Centre (DTC) and South Tyneside (ST) Hospital.

The role of the dental nurse is to provide quality care to all patients attending the Head and Neck Centre by providing support to clinicians in outpatient clinics.

The shift pattern is usually 830am-515pm Monday to Friday.

The staff in the Head and Neck Centre have close working links with the Multi-disciplinary Team and the Head and Neck ward C33.

Person Specification

Physical skills Essential

Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy

Qualifications Essential

Basic Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent Basic IT Skills Registered Dental Nurse with National certificate in Dental Nursing Certificate in Conscious Dental Sedation or Orthodontics

Desirable

Dental radiography Certificate Evidence of professional development

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information Able to work without supervision Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office Evidence of CPD Excellent interpersonal skills Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills Flexibility in working patterns

Experience Essential

Registered Dental Nurse with a minimum of 12 months post registration experience

Desirable

Experience in a secondary health care setting Management experience
