About this role

Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) are seeking a motivated and experienced Pharmacy Technician or Science and Manufacturing Technician to supervise the routine operation of the aseptic unit preparing Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy agents. You will be working as part of a multi-skilled team to supply chemotherapy to oncology and haematology units in Sunderland and South Tyneside hospitals.

You will be responsible to the Aseptic Services Manager and Accountable Pharmacist and oversee the units compliance to aseptic production standards, GMP and safe handling of injectable medicines delivery.

Main duties of the job

The role entails liaising closely with chemotherapy administration units and pharmacy production staff to produce chemotherapy in a timely manner.

Previous experience of working in a hospital pharmacy aseptic unit is essential. A good working knowledge of GMP is expected. Experience of working with chemotherapy is preferred.

Applicants must possess:

NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, or Level 3 Science and Manufacturing Technician Qualification at starting date.

Recognised Checking qualification.

Registration with the GPhC, or Science Council (SMT).

The postholder will provide support to the Aseptic Services Manager and Accountable Pharmacist to ensure smooth running of the unit and ensure staff are compliant with current training requirements and working within GMP and local policies at all times.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Hospital pharmacy experience. Experience working in a aseptic unit.

Desirable

Experience of working with chemotherapy.

Physical Skills Essential

Able to meet department travel requirements.

Qualifications Essential

Basic Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent. NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, or Level 3 Science and Manufacturing Technician Qualification at starting date. Recognised Checking qualification. Registration with the GPhC, or Science Council (SMT).
