About this role

Job summary

This a service development post intended to promote excellence in our diagnostic dermatopathology and diagnostic cytology service and best-in-class care for the patients in our region and beyond. The appointee would be expected to have an established interest in dermatopathology and diagnostic cytology. This will enable the appointee to support our existing team of consultant dermatopathologists to develop their diagnostic expertise to the very highest level. It is hoped that the appointee's contribution to the life of the department will foster excellence in dermatopathology and diagnostic cytology among our specialty trainees.

Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

Dermatopathology:

The current dermatopathology team supports the dermatology, plastic surgery, and oculoplastic surgery services in Bristol. We receive skin specimens from Bristol and neighbouring areas. The existing dermatopathology team consists of five specialist dermatopathologists. This is a part-time post for a specialist skin pathologist to support the existing dermatopathology team, to promote diagnostic excellence, and provide a framework for developing a leading dermatopathology centre here at NBT. The specialist skin team supports three MDTs (see details in the MDT section) and specialised services such as Mohs surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsies.

Diagnostic Cytology:

The diagnostic cytology team report a wide range of specimen types, submitted from NBT and UHBW. This post is to provide more resilience to the diagnostic cytology team.

Qualifications And Registration Essential

Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) Applicants that are UK trained must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification

Training And Experience Essential

Knowledge of the NHS Healthcare system and of Cellular Pathology service redesign processes Sub-specialty interest in Dermatopathology Experience of developing and providing training in specialist Dermatopathology
