About this role

Under the general guidance of the Concierge, the Porter position is responsible for meeting, greeting, and assisting in transporting guest’s luggage and items to and from their rooms in a courteous, timely and professional manner.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greeting incoming and outgoing guests at the door when standing in the lobbyAssist and cover for door people during breaksGreet arriving guests and retrieve their luggage, ensuring all items are accounted forEscort guests to their rooms, explain the room facilities, and sell the hotel’s various outlets (restaurant, bar, spa)Deliver luggage, messages, faxes, packages etc. for guests and to undertake various other requests in order to ensure their comfortTransport departing guests’ luggage from the room to the lobby, ensuring that the guest has verified that all luggage has been accounted forEnsure that luggage has been stored safely according to prescribed proceduresEnsure that the luggage storage area is always kept clean and tidyInform guests with savvy knowledge of hotel, its services, the city, and local ‘happenings’Be fully aware of what functions are going on in the hotelAble to drive in a safe and efficient mannerAble to keep a record of all the incidents while driving, for example, any accidents or tickets.Responsible to ensure the safety and security of the guests while traveling.Provide gracious, attentive, and friendly serviceAny other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor or managerWe recognize we are in the hospitality industry and that may require us to provide lateral service. We will on occasion call for each individual in the team to, on a routine basis perform various related tasks as needed in the spirit of providing exceptional guest service.Must love and take care of guests! High School Diploma or equivalent requiredOne to two years in a public contact position, preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotelPossess a gracious, friendly, and fun demeanorAbility to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment and have a high level attention to detailMaintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departmentsAbility to work independently and to partner with others to promote an environment of teamworkFull and clean driving licenceMust be able to stand or walk a minimum eight-hour shift.Must be able observant and quick to respond to various situations while also multitasking and handling stressful situations.Must be able to twist, tow (push or pull), reach, bend climb and carry objects as necessary.Must have excellent communication skills and be able to read, write, speak and understand English.Working knowledge of basic safety, security, data protection and emergency procedures in a hotel settingAdditional language ability preferred.All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Specific department uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you by your supervisor.
