The maternity team at the University Hospital of North Durham is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about delivering and promoting highquality maternity care within an acute hospital setting. Maternity support workers play a vital role in caring for mothers, birthing people, their newborns, and their families throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period. Their contribution is essential to the effective delivery of maternity services
Main duties of the job
Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) work in line with the nationally recognised NHS Maternity support worker competency, education and career development framework. The successful applicant will be provided with the appropriate training to meet the requirements of the framework.
Support workers in the maternity settings will:
support the work of registered and non-registered practitioners
work under direct or indirect supervision, and/or as lone workers, where appropriate
work across service settings and professional boundaries, according to the needs of women, their newborn infants and their families and local service provision
Work with families to promote the public health agenda
Specific clinical skills will includephlebotomy, ECG, theatre work, neonatal observations, breastfeeding support and advice, and maintenance of essential equipment.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description Job responsibilities
As an important member of the maternity team, you will deliver care directly to women, babies and families whilst supporting midwives and other healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, compassionate care to people in accordance with their needs and care plans.
There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required skill set for care delivery in all areas of acute maternity services. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification
