The Band 5 Electrician is a key member of the Estates Operational Team, responsible for delivering a safe, efficient, and responsive electrical maintenance service across the Trust estate. The post holder will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), statutory compliance tasks, fault diagnosis, repairs, and minor installation works on a wide range of electrical systems and equipment.
The role supports the delivery of a high-quality environment for patients, staff, and visitors by ensuring electrical systems remain safe, reliable, and compliant with relevant legislation, technical standards, and Trust policies. The post holder will work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the resilience and operational continuity of critical hospital infrastructure.
Main duties of the job
Carry out electrical PPM, statutory testing, and reactive maintenance in line with legislation, HTMs, and Trust procedures.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults across key systems (power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, nurse call, IPS/UPS).
Ensure safe, efficient, and technically compliant completion of all work, with accurate CAFM (RAM/Concerto) records.
Participate in the Estates on-call rota to maintain service continuity during urgent out-of-hours issues.
Support emergency response to electrical failures in critical clinical areas, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
Maintain compliance with Trust policies including Health & Safety, Infection Control, Safeguarding, and Data Protection.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and grade as required by Estates management.

BS7671 Electrical testing qualification (e.g., C&G 2391 or 2394/2395) Full UK Driving License Ability to participate in the on call rota NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent Experience in electrical maintenance, fault finding, and repair
Desirable
Specialist training in medical gases, BMS, or water systems Emergency First Aid (or willingness to complete) Experience in a healthcare or similarly complex environment Experience with BMS systems Experience with IPS/UPS systems
