Senior Application Engineer – Thermal Solutions

Location: Philippines (Supporting Australia & New Zealand Region) Department: Application Engineering / Product Development & Engineering Reports To: Manager, Application Engineering

Position Summary

The Senior Application Engineer – Thermal Solutions is responsible for providing advanced pre-sales engineering and technical solution support for the Australia and New Zealand markets. The role develops and delivers integrated critical infrastructure solutions utilizing Vertiv's portfolio of thermal management products and approved third-party products and services to meet customer, technical, and commercial requirements.

The position serves as a senior technical authority for complex and strategic projects across Enterprise, Colocation (COLO), Infrastructure Solutions (IS), and turnkey opportunities. The incumbent is expected to lead the technical development of multi-million-dollar projects, provide technical leadership to stakeholders, and drive successful project execution through effective collaboration with factories, consultants, contractors, sales teams, and customers.

Key Responsibilities Technical Solution Development

• Provide pre-sales engineering support for critical infrastructure opportunities across Enterprise, COLO, IS, and other turnkey project segments. • Develop technically robust and commercially competitive solutions utilizing Vertiv products and approved third-party offerings. • Evaluate customer specifications, technical requirements, and project constraints to develop optimized solutions. • Prepare technical proposals, equipment selections, system designs, compliance documentation, and technical submittals. • Support bid and tender activities through technical evaluations, design reviews, and solution recommendations.

Project Leadership and Execution

• Lead the technical aspects of complex and high-value projects from opportunity development through project handover. • Manage technical deliverables for multi-million-dollar opportunities involving mission-critical facilities and data center environments. • Coordinate with manufacturing facilities, contractors, consultants, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. • Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and customer expectations. • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), design reviews, commissioning activities, and technical issue resolution when required.

Technical Leadership and Capability Development

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Vertiv Thermal product solutions, including CRAC, CRAH, FWU, and associated cooling technologies. • Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing to Application Engineers and other internal stakeholders. • Conduct technical presentations, workshops, and training sessions for customers, consultants, channel partners, and internal teams. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, solution development, and technical excellence.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, and key industry stakeholders. • Engage with customers throughout the sales cycle to understand requirements and propose value-driven solutions. • Provide technical expertise during customer meetings, design consultations, and project reviews. • Support strategic business growth through technical leadership and trusted-advisor engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. • Minimum of five (5) years of practical experience within the HVAC, critical infrastructure, or data center industry. • Demonstrated experience in HVAC system design, consultancy, installation, commissioning, controls integration, and troubleshooting. • Proven experience supporting complex and high-value projects, tenders, and critical infrastructure opportunities. • Experience working with customers, consultants, contractors, and cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle. • Knowledge of Australian and international standards, engineering frameworks, and industry codes applicable to HVAC and mission-critical facilities.

Technical Competencies

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, thermal management technologies, controls, and networking solutions. • Strong understanding of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, electrical circuits, control systems, and system integration. • Expert knowledge of Vertiv Thermal products and solutions, including: • CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) • CRAH (Computer Room Air Handler) • FWU (Freecooling Wall Unit) • Chillers • Thermal controls and monitoring platforms

• Strong understanding of data center operations and critical infrastructure environments. • Ability to develop integrated solutions for mission-critical and enterprise applications. • Proficiency in technical drawing interpretation, engineering schematics, control diagrams, and design specifications. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, CFD and other engineering design tools.
