About this role

To ensure temple grounds reflect the sacredness, beauty, and cleanliness of the temple experience. This role supports basic landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks under the guidance of senior team members and in alignment with temple facilities standards. This is an entry-level para-professional position.

• Perform basic grounds keeping tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, and assisting in planting perennials, shrubs, and seasonal flowers according to landscape design plans.

• Operate hand tools and power equipment safely to maintain grounds.

• When applicable, ensure the temple site remains safe and accessible by addressing winter-related hazards, and other natural hazards as needed.

• Maintain and operate the irrigation system to ensure proper functioning and evenly distribute water as directed.

• Maintain cleanliness by removing debris, fallen leaves, and trash from landscaped areas.

• Support volunteers during grounds keeping activities and maintain adherence to all safety protocols while performing tasks.

• Regularly works around moving mechanical equipment and outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.

• Work with various professional fertilizers and chemicals.

• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.

• There is constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires a good deal of manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.

• Must be worthy to hold a current temple recommend

• 2 years of experience or completion of a diploma in agronomy, arboriculture, horticulture, landscaping, landscape design, or landscape technology

• Basic knowledge of landscaping tools and small machinery.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23kg and work in outdoor conditions.

• Must be able to team lift and position objects weighing as much as 100 lbs./45 kg on an occasional basis.

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push, and pull for extended periods of time.

• Must pass all required safety and equipment certifications and trainings.

• Requires physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power tools and equipment.

• Also, must be capable of understanding instructions both verbally and in writing and able to listen and ask clarifying questions as needed.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
