Job SummaryAbout the Position: Serve as Pharmacy Technician for the Clinic Pharmacy Service located at Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center in Fort Meade, Maryland. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Interpreting, filling and dispersing prescriptions; answering routine questions concerning proper administration and use of medications; and inputting medication orders in the computer system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician through PTCB or National Health Career Association.

Major DutiesReceives, reviews, prepares, and fills physician orders for outpatient prescriptions, and bulk drug orders.Executes bulk drug orders, replenishment of emergency medication carts and medication carts issued to medication use areas within the facility in accordance with local policy.Determines type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice, federal laws, state laws, and pharmacy standing operating procedures (SOPs).Enters prescriptions into outpatient computer system, reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders. Current computer platforms include MHS Genesis, GSL, Pyxis, ScriptPro, as well as robotic systems.Provides appropriate information to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to a registered pharmacist.Assures the safe handling, preparation, storage, and disposal of cytotoxic and hazardous drugs.Informs supervisor, or designated Pharmacist, about stock level changes as determined by unusual increases or decreases in demand and seasonal requirements.Maintains security and limited access of all pharmaceuticals.
